Racing in New Zealand on Wednesday heads to Riccarton. Betsy’s resident form guru NZ Trial Watcher has done the form and picked out the very best bets across the ten-race card.
Turf Talk:
- Track is rated a Heavy 8
- Rail out 4.5m,
- Further track downgrade possible.
Race 3: (MDN/1400m)
Interesting runner is (8) THE ARTIC MONKEY on debut for Bruce Trapper. A 5YO gelding. Two career trials, two years apart, latest at Ashburton 03/02 finishing 2nd. Rider unbalanced early lost irons or horse was shifty in it’s action settling last, only wound up in the straight, the L400 was impressive! Appreciated wet conditions and finds similar for his debut at 1400m. Ignored by the market, a spec at odds.
Suggested Bet: THE ARTIC MONKEY
Race 4: (2YO/1000m)
Key chances come through same race, (5) MISS TWINKLE capitalised on the race experience to beat (1) KYOSHI BOY who was green, over-racing and lost up the middle of the course on debut, his last 100m the best part of his work. With a low draw, the rail for guidance and Bruno Queiroz stepping him out to a 1000m he can turn the tables on the filly.
Suggested Bet: KYOSHI BOY
Race 6: (R65/1200m)
If this race goes to script, (7) BELLE DU MONDE is clear horse to beat. Beaten as a short-priced favourite here last time, presented to win and bogged down late in the inferior ground. Yet to win at 1200m in three attempts, this is her best opportunity yet with a fast speed expected and preferred track conditions.
Suggested Bet: BELLE DU MONDE (Best)
Race 8: (R65/1600m)
(1) THE BOSS LADY is a progressive mare resuming, black-booked out of the Ashburton trials sporting blinkers, the daughter of Vadamos showed her true ability closing best behind LOOSE SALLY in the Warstep Stakes over 2000m. Returning in benchmark company, she gets her preferred track conditions at the mile with further improvement expected out of the change in head gear. (4) LIFE OF RILEY loomed to win fresh and didn’t finish off, similar story last start when outclassed late, needs a win, comes through a good race at the level to be competitive again.
Suggested Bet: THE BOSS LADY
