There are a couple of well-fancied runners on Wednesday that Shaun Beirne believes are worth taking on.
As always, Bet Legends is putting its money where its mouth is, offering enhanced specials on both runners if you’re prepared to take the opposite view.
Sandown Race 3 – Stay Silent
Stay Silent has been a model of consistency this preparation, but Beirne believes the gelding may be nearing the end of a long campaign and is under the odds.
“He’s had every chance to build a strong profile this preparation, but we’re now looking at an 11th run this prep without a break longer than 26 days,” Beirne said.
“That’s the sort of profile where horses can flatten out, particularly when they’ve been up for so long.”
The race map is another factor that concerns him. Stay Silent is expected to enjoy a soft run from the inside draw, likely landing in the box seat, but Beirne isn’t convinced that’s necessarily the place to be.
“It looks like they’ll roll along at a genuine tempo, and if horses are getting away from the fence later in the meeting, that inside run might not be the advantage the market expects.”
While he’s prepared to forgive the horse’s disappointing run last week, Beirne says the current market is still leaning too heavily on ratings produced much earlier in the campaign.
“His personal best absolutely measures up to this race, but that peak performance came 13 starts ago. At the current price, I think he’s vulnerable.”

Eagle Farm Race 4 – Veomas
At Eagle Farm, Beirne is happy to oppose Veomas despite the horse having plenty of market support.
The gelding resumes for his second run this preparation for the Tony Gollan stable, but Beirne believes there are enough question marks to take him on.
“His trial was OK without being anything special. I’d argue there were several others who trialled just as well, if not better.”
The bigger concern comes from his race record.
“If you ignore his first start in stakes company, he’s had six runs in maiden grade and has been beaten by an average of around three-and-a-half lengths. That’s not the profile of a horse I’d want to be taking short odds about.”
The anticipated race shape only strengthens Beirne’s view.
“He’s likely to settle back in what looks a fairly moderately run race. Giving away a start in those circumstances is never ideal.”
