Blue Diamond winner Streisand is set for a crack at the Golden Slipper.
Fresh off her heroics at Caulfield on Saturday, trainer Clint McDonald said her dominant performance left them with little choice.
‘’Well, I think we have to know, It’s one of those ones where … I thought she was a good filly but maybe just off them,’’ he told SEN Track.
‘’The way that she won that race was dominant. And looking at the horses up in Sydney, [the Slipper] is still very open. You have got Warwoven as the favourite; we still haven’t seen him since the Magic Millions.”
‘’So I think he runs this week so that will really tell the tale. But she [Streisand] goes on wet or dry, which is a big plus for the Slipper. I think that’s a really big key.”
”And the way she’s pulled up, she’s fantastic. So why not?”
McDonald said Streisand will have a short break this week before her Slipper campaign, where she is currently $11 with Bet365.
‘’We’ve got four weeks, she’s going to go to the paddock for three or four days this week, and then she’ll come back, and we’ll prep her up and get her ready for the Slipper,’’ he said.
‘’We don’t have to go up there and race. She’s got the experience; she’s got the miles in the legs. It’s just a matter of keeping her happy and get her up there, safe and sound.’’
With an ownership group including former AFL stars Dustin Martin and Michael Gardiner, McDonald said the stable enjoyed a party on Saturday night and would again celebrate the win over lunch on Monday.
McDonald said Martin would have to buy a suit for the Slipper.
‘’He doesn’t even own a suit, he’s got to go and buy a suit for the Slipper,’’ McDonald said.
‘’And he reckons it was the best day he’s ever had. So obviously him and Michael are very close, but I think he got a real kick out of seeing Gardi [Gardiner]having it.’’
