TAB customers have launched into Saturday’s racing with a mix of roughie plays and confidence bets, including a $10,000 wager on Sunrise Ridge at Randwick and a $4,000 investment on Gold Czech at Eagle Farm.
Several other notable bets have also landed across the country’s feature meetings, giving traders an early indication of where punters see value.
| Runner | Bet |
|---|---|
| Sunrise Ridge – Randwick R3 No.15 | $10,000 at $15 to collect $150,000 |
| Gold Czech – Eagle Farm R4 No.2 | $4,000 at $31 to collect $124,000 |
| Boomtown Boss – Eagle Farm R9 | $2,000 each-way at $6.50 / $2.30 |
| Markdel – Flemington R9 | $2,000 each-way at $10 / $3.40 |
| Elouyou (Flemington R6 No.4) into Welwal to place in the Stradbroke | $1,000 at $51 to collect $51,000 |
The biggest bet reported by TAB was $10,000 on Sunrise Ridge (Randwick Race 3) at $15, a wager that would return $150,000 if successful.
Trained by Greg Backhouse at Moruya, the three-year-old filly broke through in dominant fashion at Sapphire Coast two starts ago before producing a solid third-place finish in a Highway Handicap at Gosford last start.
Queensland roughie Gold Czech (Eagle Farm Race 4) also attracted attention, with one punter staking $4,000 at $31 to chase a $124,000 collect. Gold Czech has since firmed into $21 following the investment.
TAB Senior Trading Manager Timothy Owens said Gold Czech had shown enough in its first few runs to suggest the rise in distance would be beneficial.
“Eagle Farm Race 4, No.2 has run on well all three starts. Stepping out to 1500 metres will suit in a race that will likely be run at a decent tempo.”
Owens said Sunrise Ridge had also caught the attention of punters after a strong performance at its latest outing.
“Randwick Race 3, No.15 kept finding last start in the Highway. Out to 1100 metres and drawn well, won’t have an issue with a soft track.”
While the largest wagers have landed on rougher-priced runners, TAB customers have also launched into a couple of runners in the last at both Flemington and Eagle Farm.
One punter has invested $2,000 each-way on Boomtown Boss in Race 9 at Eagle Farm at odds of $6.50 and $2.30, while another has backed Markdel each-way in Flemington’s final event, taking $10 for the win and $3.40 the place.
Betsy’s Blair Gibson is keen on the chances of Boomtown Boss: “I loved the blinkers going on (8) Boomtown Boss last start,” wrote Gibbo.
“His sister needed them (blinkers) to show her best and he just had no luck at all. Forget he went around there. Berry, gate 6, third-up and ready to show his best.”

Another TAB customer has taken the speculative route, placing $1,000 on a $51 multi involving Elouyou in Race 6 at Flemington and Welwal to place in the Stradbroke Handicap (to be run next week).
