Finding winners is only half the battle. Knowing which favourites are under the odds can be just as profitable.
This week, Bet Legends’ Shaun Beirne is taking aim at three runners he believes the market has overestimated, with Randwick providing two of his best lays before he heads north to Eagle Farm.

Randwick Race 7 – Benevac
“I think Benevac is a horse the market has fallen in love with for all the wrong reasons.”
Beirne believes both of Benevac’s recent ratings need to be treated with caution.
“Two starts ago the rating was heavily inflated by a significant rail bias, then last start everything went right on a very heavy track where the winning margin ended up looking much better than the performance itself.”
He expects a completely different race shape on Saturday.
“Last start he was able to dictate terms. This time there’s genuine pressure drawn around him and I don’t think he gets anywhere near the same economical run. It’s a very different scenario.”

Randwick Race 9 – Ice Kool
“Ice Kool probably should still be unbeaten, but each assignment is becoming more difficult and I think this is another step up.”
Beirne’s concern isn’t so much the horse’s ability, but the race map.
“There’s plenty of speed engaged and I don’t think he gets the soft lead or race control that’s been such a big part of his recent success.”
Even allowing for natural improvement, he’s happy to oppose at the current quote.
“Even if I project him to a new career peak rating, I still can’t get him anywhere near the current market price.”

Eagle Farm Race 8 – Anemacore
“Anemacore is another horse I think the market has overreacted to.”
Beirne expects the gelding to settle near the tail in a race that lacks genuine speed.
“He maps to be last in what looks only a moderate tempo, and that’s never an easy recipe.”
He also believes last start’s performance has been slightly overstated.
“He was flattered by the pattern when making ground and, even if I give him a career-best rating here, I can only price him around the $6 mark. He’s certainly not as short as the market has him.”
