Turf Talk
- Terang used to be described as the ‘Flemington of the bush’. Lovely, long straight. In recent years it has raced most indifferently, often with ‘lanes’.
- The last meeting was in early January with the rail True and seemed an advantage to be on speed early but that flipped around later in the day.
- Interesting movement with the rail going out 3m here to get off those inside couple of lanes.
- Warm day will dry the track out and naturally advantage those on speed.
- Treading warily and keen to see how the first few races play out.
Race 3
(15) Equivaster was disqualified on debut at Yarra Valley after Caitlin Hollowood weighed in light but she finished third last anyway. She drew out there and got a mile back but her work past the post was OK. She has the blinkers on for the first time, Meech goes in the saddle and she draws gate one – all things that suggest to me she’s going to be ridden for the lead. Provided she jumps cleanly with those blinkers on first time (horses can tend to be a touch slow) then she showed in jump-outs she has enough toe to lead a field like this. Happy to spec in a moderate Maiden.
(4) Burleigh is on the quick back-up from Saturday where he had no luck at Ballarat. Had a few chances and deep into the campaign but should have no issue with the back-up after largely going to the line untested.
Suggested bet: Backing Equivaster.
Race 5
Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young look to have a couple of strong winning chances on the card. (9) Beautifully has trialled up well ahead of her return. She was well beaten on debut at Sale at her only start, but was chopped out late and should have finished closer. I’ve liked the way she’s jumped out this time in, and she draws to settle right on speed for Jett Stanley, a combination that should see her run very well fresh.
Think (5) Positive Image is the horse to beat. Draws nicely, ran well enough in a stronger Maiden first-up at Colac. Looks suited 1100m to 1400m.
Got some time for (3) Hellofacury. Was strong late on debut and then was looking for 1400m at Coolac last start. Knock is he draws out and will likely spot them a start, but can absolutely win with the right run.
Suggested bet: Miss the $15 Beautifully opened, but can still get $8. Looks a good E/W price.
