Race 2 – 1:26PM Eureka Concrete Maiden Plate (1000 METRES)
Burrumbeet is a really tight-turning track where you absolutely want to be on speed/near the rails, all things being equal.
Have been sweating on a scratching here as #11 FOREMMAKATE looks awfully hard to beat first up. This filly has had jump-outs at Ballarat and Horsham leading into this resumption, winning both impressively. She also won a jump-out here at Burrumbeet before her debut, and being trained locally at Ballarat she may have had more than one spin around here.
Total forgive on debut at Ballarat last campaign. She got caught in the synthetic backwash but also pulled up with cardiac arrythmia and lame- which can’t help! She resumes with a tongue tie on and maps to sit on speed from a soft draw. If she runs up to her jump-outs, they won’t be beating her, the risk being taken is that she jumped-out well prior to having issues on debut.

Race 8 – 5:16PM Windermere Oilseeds BM52 Handicap (1000 METRES)
Bit of a leap of faith here with #1 AUSSIE PHAROAH who is having his first start for Robert Shultz. This bloke was formerly with Will Clarken and Nikki O’Shea, but that certainly wasn’t his first home, having previously relocated from NSW – so he’s clearly not straightforward, nor blessed with breathtaking talent.
However, I was intrigued by a recent Mount Gambier trial win where he was given a solid send along to beat a couple of handy gallopers. Sure, he was blinkered up and aske dot do a bit, but for a hose that has previously got out to a mile, and beyond, it was a sharp bit of work. Also really liked how Kate Walters was up to get him out of the barriers so well.
Class-wise, he has a bit on this field. The concern is the 1000m, which is far from his pet distance. But, having had a year off, he looks to be quite sharp and fresh ahead of this return to the track and from a soft draw he should get a good run near-enough the early speed.
This isn’t a strong race – he’s worth having something on off his trial.
