Heat one held plenty of intrigue with Pride Of Jenni having a quiet hit-out ahead of a possible spring campaign. The star mare finished four lengths off Just Folk, who was asked for a bit more effort and is a noted good trial horse. Hard to take much from Jenni’s work, she cruised through it, but given she flopped at her last two Group 1 tilts you would want to see more before launching in from a punting perspective.
The baldy-faced, Apache Cat lookalike, She’s An Artist, also stepped out, taking out heat five in style. She did everything you would want to see from a sharp sprinter off a short let-up, and she looks the type who could make a quick climb through the grades this spring.
Summary
Heat | Horse | Target |
---|---|---|
2 | Star Patrol | Group 2/3 Sprints |
4 | Quickaz | Likely 1100/1200m Maiden |
10 | Alabama Express x Rowsthorn Colt | Needs another jump-out |
Whack these in your blackbook:
Heat 2 – Star Patrol (1st)
Love how this bloke is trialling. He has barely been sighted since spring last year and was ordinary in two runs back in 2023, but the talent has always been there. Both jump-outs this prep have been sharp, and he put a very handy trial horse (Philosopher) to the sword here with ease. Looks like the big boy might be back.
Heat 4 – Quickaz (3rd)
Really liked the way this Julius Sandhu filly moved in a slick heat. She matched motors with some sharp types largely under her own steam. Showed ability in jump-outs last prep but never got to the races, expect her to make amends quickly when she debuts.
Heat 10 – Alabama Express x Rowsthorn colt
This Ken Keys-trained youngster is a big lump of a colt who still has plenty to learn. He did a lot wrong here but still put his rivals away with plenty in hand over 650m. Keen to see him again over further in a jump-out before he debuts, but there is no doubt he has ability.
