Marinera — Bjorn Baker (Rachel King)
Hawkesbury H10 800m – Sept 15
Smart first trial back this prep for the 3yo filly. She started $3.40 last prep but didn’t handle the heavy ground. Loved her last 100m here chasing a tearaway leader. Expect another trial before resuming.
Grey Resources — Blake Ryan (Jay Ford)
Hawkesbury H10 800m – Sept 15
Took out this trial by 4.48L in very fast time. This was his debut trial for the sharp Blake Ryan yard. May be HK-bound, but if not he looks a fresh betting prospect.
Sir Loyne — Michael Freedman (Regan Bayliss)
Randwick H6 1050m – Sept 16
Quiet in his first trial, then given an impressive hit out here. Travelled sweetly, picked up the bridle and closed off strongly while working through the line. Dam side suggests he’ll get 1200–1600m.
Straights Sets — Annabel & Rob Archibald (James McDonald)
Randwick H12 740m – Sept 16
Outstanding return trial. Started $2.50 on debut before pulling up with an issue. After 13 weeks off he produced a sharp effort with McDonald aboard. Likely to trial again before heading back to the races.
Viipuri — Peter Snowden (Andrew Adkins)
Randwick H13 740m – Sept 16
Smart first trial back for this 3yo colt. Time wasn’t flash but he wasn’t asked for much. Expect improvement in a second trial.
Flying Season — Paul McVicar (John Kissick)
Corowa H1 900m – Sept 15
Back-to-back impressive trials for this lightly raced 7yo. Only 10 starts to date with 52 weeks off, but looks back in a big way. Asked to close off in both trials and did so smartly.
Zealously — Peter Snowden (Kerrin McEvoy)
Randwick H9 740m – Sept 16
This progressive gelding looks back in a big way. After 14 weeks off he produced a sharp 740m effort, even shading Overpass. Strong past the post and looks capable of rising through the grades into Listed company.
