Race 2 – 2yo Open (900m)
This is the first 2yo race of the season in SA and we have a field of just seven to contest it. These early season races for the babies are always intriguing.
(1) BLANDFORD BARON was the pick of the trials from the 18/9 session at Murray Bridge. We black booked him in our review off the back of the trial where he showed good speed, moved neatly and looked a professional young horse. Like the booking of Caitlin Tootell to take 3kg off and have him on top.
(5) INHABIT is the short priced favourite on the back of a 6L trial win at this track on 3/10. She showed great speed and led her rivals comfortably before coming away to win easily. She will be very hard to catch over the 900 but we have a query how strong she’ll be late. Happy to risk at the sort quote, but accept she’s hard to beat.
(3) VANDAROSS and (7) REBEL TUESDAY come through the same trial and we liked how they both went. Think they both have some style about them and liked the way they went through the line. Would be keeping a close eye on them but thinking the 900 on debut against two very speedy customers might make it tough to win. Watch the market for both, particularly Rebel Tuesday from the Stokes yard.
Betting Suggestion:
Happy to let the short priced favourite go around without us at $1.90. Watch the market closely but happy to back (1) BLANDFORD BARON at $3.50+ and something very small (3) VANDAROSS.
