Back again for the first official 2YO trial set at Kensington as we had a first look at the new season juveniles. Waterhouse/Bott once again dominated with six winners, continuing their strong record at this meeting (three in 2024, seven in 2023 including Straight Charge, Lady Of Camelot and Espionage).

Trial by Trial
Trial 1 – 9:00AM 2YO C&G (850m)
Time: 0:49.54 | Last 600m: 0:33.28
I’M YA HUCKLEBERRY (c Home Affairs x Key) won this trial and did so in style. He was a $400,000 Magic Millions purchase and has size and professionalism. Jumped well, kicked up to hold the inside and was too good late. He was challenged by PARADOXIUM but responded when asked for an effort by Hyeronimus and won by 2.4L. Impressive win. He is a strong colt and has talent. No knock on PARADOXIUM, a colt by Extreme Choice who raced fresh, with THE MACHINE GUN the best of the closers.
Home Affairs colt I’m Ya Huckleberry, trained by @GaiWaterhouse1 & Adrian Bott, wins the opening 2yo trial for 2025 under Adam Hyeronimus, leading all the way from Paradoxium (Extreme Choice) with The Machine Gun (Stay Inside) in third – 49.54 the time. @tabcomau pic.twitter.com/ctL0KYI1mw

Trial 2 – 9:15AM 2YO Fillies (850m)
Time: 0:50.63 | Last 600m: 0:33.71
Trial 2 and the second winner by Home Affairs and the second for the Waterhouse and Bott yard with Hyeronimus on board. This time it was the filly HOME INVASION out of Catwalk who was a $220,000 purchase. With a name like that, it’s surprising she’s not from Melbourne. She showed good gate speed to land in front. Ridden out and urged along late in the piece but professional and a nice win. Nothing made ground at all in this heat in a trial that did not change complexion much at all.
Trial 3 – 9:30AM 2YO C&G (850m)
Time: 0:49.53 | Last 600m: 0:33.19
Fast time and an impressive win by a colt by Stay Inside called EVICTION NOTICE. The third straight winner from the Waterhouse/Bott camp and the third leader to get the job done. This colt jumped straight on the bunny, leaving the gates brilliantly. He was not seen after that, running fast time and winning by close to 8 lengths. Looks quick, professional and sustained a strong gallop. Another Gold Coast Magic Millions purchase for $380,000
“The Stay Inside colt is going to tear them apart.”
Eviction Notice, trained by @GaiWaterhouse1 & Adrian Bott, runs away with a 2yo trial at Randwick in 49.53 beating King Of The Nile (I Am Invincible) and Threads (Snitzel). @tabcomau pic.twitter.com/dYm1EdSIDj

Trial 4 – 9:45AM 2YO Fillies (850m)
Time: 0:50.58 | Last 600m: 0:34.09
Loved the win of this Yes Yes Yes filly, OH YES SHE DID here. She was one of only two horses to come from behind runners and the only one really to work off heels to the outside and sprint passed a couple which is a great attribute for an early season 2YO. Mitchell and Desiree Kearney look to have a nice filly on their hands. OH YES SHE DID was an Inglis Classic purchase for $240,000. MAYFLOWER and IGNITION CODE filled the placings and went okay but we really liked the performances of YVONNE’S JOY in behind, running home under her own steam for fourth. Even SUMAC worked home well along the inside and attacked the line well.
Oh Yes She Did (Yes Yes Yes), trained by Mitch & Desiree @KearneyRacing23, wins a 2yo fillies trial at Randwick in 50.58 beating Mayflower (Capitalist) with Ignition Code (Stay Inside) in third. @tabcomau pic.twitter.com/9FL3BceCkH

Trial 5 – 10:00AM 2YO C&G (850m)
Time: 0:50.22 | Last 600m: 0:33.15
It wouldn’t be a 2YO trial set without James Harron Bloodstock producing one. They teamed up with Tony Fung, purchasing KNIGHTSBRIDGE (c Farnan x Festivity) for $750,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions and they would have been happy with what they saw at his first public outing. This colt didn’t show a huge amount of natural gate speed, jumping with them but marginally slow out of the barrier before hunting up to settled second. He loomed up under a hold and kept finding under urgings. Whip applied and solid to the wire. The second horse OUR EMPEROR showed good speed to lead, kicked back when headed and was strong to the line. Whip applied. Professional performance.
Trial 6 – 10:15AM 2YO Fillies (850m)
Time: 0:50.23 | Last 600m: 0:33.65
Life after James Cummings continues for Godolphin with Portelli and Anthony and Sam Freedman having runners for them in this trial and a couple earlier in the day including Accompany in Trial 1 for Ciaron Maher. HANDLOOM trained by Portelli ran second with SEMANTICS running fourth after racing wide. Not sure how HANDLOOM ran second in this heat but we loved what we saw from her. She settled in behind the speed, but worked between runners under minimal pressure and found the line stylishly. She doesn’t look a big filly as yet but she’s beautifully bred as you would expect, by Exceed And Excel out of Handspun. Moved very nicely and went well. The winner was Zoustar filly MASVINGO. She jumped well, settled outside lead and proved too strong. The $580,000 purchase wasn’t knocked about and won impressively.
TRIAL 6 – MASVINGO (2 f Zoustar – Rotator) proves too strong for @BBakerRacing & @RidgmontFarm 📈
The filly by @widdenstud‘s ZOUSTAR was a $580,000 buy in partnership with @ClarkeBstock from @silverdale_farm‘s @mmsnippets draft 💛

Trial 7 – 10:30AM 2YO C&G (850m)
Time: 0:50.57 | Last 600m: 0:33.82
Don’t think this was the strongest heat of the morning. IAMBUBB showed speed, settling just behind the lead but had clear running along the fence. Had that as a guide throughout but he found well enough to win. The son of Bivouac in GRATIFYING and relatively cheap purchase ($48,000) covered ground and went well, running a pleasing second. Can’t knock.
Trial 8 – 10:45AM 2YO Fillies (850m)
Time: 0:49.46 | Last 600m: 0:33.46
Good overall time but a fair bit of pressure throughout in this. SHIKI jumped well, restrained to second and proved too strong under significant riding. $150,000 Weanling then $420,000 Gold Coast Magic Millions purchase. BETTER OFF ALONE was also ridden right out by King and found the line well to just get up for second on the line over THE WILDLING.
Trial 9 – 11:00AM 2YO C&G (850m)
Time: 0:50.38 | Last 600m: 0:33.48
The last of 9 trials was won by Darby racing’s REVENGEANCE who led, but not throughout. He was headed in the straight by both ARTANEOUS and INCOGNITO but fought back strongly. Have to like the desire to win and stick his neck out which is a wonderful quality in any horse, let alone a juvenile. INCOGNITO is a $1M son of Stay Inside and attracted plenty of attention on the morning. He settled third behind the Darby racing pair, worked to the outside, got to the front under riding and just tired late. He did a bit wrong, wasn’t beaten far and went okay.
Wrap-Up
No clear standouts on the morning. We sometimes see one or two put their hand up and stamp themselves here, but it did look an even bunch.
