The Sale track has come up a Soft 5 on race morning but showers are forecast, so we may see a downgrade.
Race 3 – 2.10PM 4YO+ Maiden (1400 METRES)
Like #17 BAYWATCH who gets a run here after several scratchings. This 4yo mare was heavily backed on debut at Pakenham last campaign before sitting deep throughout. She was just ‘fair’ there on debut but there was plenty of market expectation and the rider suggested she’d be better on tracks with ‘more give’ – which she gets today.
Her recent Cranbourne trial was outstanding. She began well, went to the front and won the heat comfortably. There’s not mad speed in this race so Celine Gaudray should be able to use the inside alley to race handy to the early pace. Think she will have a fair head start on her main rival, Puglia, a horse who has had plenty of chances but has run several good races. Wasn’t 100% enamoured with how Puglia wanted to lay in during his recent trial at Colac, but that said, her race form is strong.
