Trainer Ciaron Maher has confirmed that Pride Of Jenni is expected to return for an autumn campaign as a 9-year-old, despite a below-par performance in the Group 1 Champions Mile at Flemington.

The mare, who was gallant throughout the spring, struggled on a heavy 9 track in her most recent outing, finishing second last in testing conditions that didn’t suit her bold, front-running style.

“She came through her last run okay,” Maher told SENTrack.

“You could see early on she wasn’t comfortable, she was dipping and diving on the heavy ground. But we know how tough she is.”

Following her run, Pride Of Jenni was sent back to owner Tony Ottobre’s property for a freshen-up.

“She’s back with Tony and Lynn now having a bit of a rest and recovery,” Maher said.

“I’m sure she’ll be back for the autumn.”
