Race 2: (R75/1100m)

Tempo: Fast

(10) MAD MAX has been an unreliable beast throughout his career, what he does have is a monster turn of foot when ridden quiet off a fast tempo at the shorter trips, he has the right set-up required to produce his best over 1100m coming out of the chute start today. His recent trial was very good for a stable who can get a horse up ready to win fresh.

Suggested Bet: MAD MAX (Value)

Race 3: (MDN/1600m)

Tempo: Average

(5) SUMMIT UP is a 4YO maiden in his 1st preparation and ready to win. Solid debut at Wanganui running on in an on-pace dominated race, then luckless at Otaki when a late pick-up ride for Sam Collett, lost spot early and no intent in the straight, charged through the line when race was over. Yes to Trentham and yes to 1600m, some luck required getting off the inside. (9) THE KING OF JAZZ has been supported in early betting, improved between runs with blinkers added at New Plymouth, another needing luck from gate 1 and may prefer wetter ground. (4) EARLY ONE’S also impressed at the Foxton trials recently, among the key chances.

Suggested Bet: SUMMIT UP

Race 6: (F&M SW+P/1600m)

Tempo: Average

Feature event. (9) ARCHAIC SMILE produced an outstanding performance off a short spell to win the open class here two starts ago, worth forgiving her last start effort at Matamata when barbecued four-wide from a wide draw on a day it was a significant penalty to be away from the fence, she stuck on well considering. Drawn the inside, she has an exceptional turn of foot when at or near her best and rates a Top 3 chance in this higher grade.

Suggested Bet: ARCHAIC SMILE

Race 8: (R65/2100m)

Tempo: Average

(7) UNUSUAL INVADER is a progressive mare with a turn of foot taking on one-paced staying types. Desperately unlucky in two runs at the mile at this course since breaking maidens at Tauherenikau. Bred to stay and a change of rider, the map is the key to her running out the trip at her 1st attempt, a soft draw sees her cuddled up and only needs clear air from the top of the straight to use her best asset, her closing speed.

Suggested Bet: UNUSUAL INVADER (Best)
