Summary of Best Bets
Best Bet – Race 3 (4) Kings Reflection
Race by race overview
Race 1
(2) Gamadale Paddy has been $50 into as short as $9 since markets opened yesterday afternoon. The Weir camp is well and truly back at the Bool and appears to have done its best to hide this colt’s talent, riding him alongside the outside rail in a recent jump-out.
(4) Magiconi beat Whistle Down in his jump-out, who is a reasonably talented older horse.
(11) Frewdamoss showed a nice turn of foot in a recent trial at Pakenham.
(7) Stayinharmony moves well for a stable that performs strongly at this carnival.
Selections:
(2) Gamadale Paddy
(4) Magiconi
(11) Frewdamoss
(7) Stayinharmony
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 2
There’s a fair case to suggest (3) Mufasa should be favourite, running the second-fastest concluding furlong of the meeting and giving the impression he can improve sharply.
(7) Libby Ann was another that finished well last start and looks suited getting further than six furlongs. She has run a figure that can win this.
(11) Vieux Riche is odds-on and understandably so, but there are a few knocks and others may be worth backing instead.
(5) Raghnall profiles as an improver.
Selections:
(3) Mufasa
(7) Libby Ann
(11) Vieux Riche
(5) Raghnall
Suggested Bet: Small bets (3) Mufasa, (7) Libby Ann
Race 3
The best bet of the week so far. (4) Kings Reflection looks an exceptional chance to break his maiden. He finished ten lengths quicker than standard over the last 800m on debut after being restrained to the rear. Strong push and heavily backed since early markets.
(3) Fire Type is next best and rates highly.
(8) Zoudeadly and (6) Sadler’s Symphony look to be fighting out the minors.
Selections:
(4) Kings Reflection
(3) Fire Type
(8) Zoudeadly
(6) Sadler’s Symphony
Suggested Bet: Win (4) Kings Reflection
Race 5
(6) Shoma is still a maiden but clearly talented, finishing third in the NZ 2000 Guineas. He ran well in South Australia last start and deserves to be short, but is hard to back at the price.
(3) Le Beau Gosse is next highest rated but again not a betting proposition.
(1) Enzo Charley and (12) Star Of Ravenna both look competitive.
Selections:
(6) Shoma
(3) Le Beau Gosse
(1) Enzo Charley
(12) Star Of Ravenna
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 7
After being heavily backed at Caulfield last start, it’s surprising (6) Thebelmontgangster isn’t favourite again. Softer ground should suit and if he runs to his best, he handles this field comfortably.
(10) Ultra Blue ran them off their feet last time and will be set for this.
(8) Enna’s Dream has trialled well between runs and can improve sharply.
(5) Stay Silent ran to a peak last start but was well beaten by Ultra Blue.
Selections:
(6) Thebelmontgangster
(10) Ultra Blue
(8) Enna’s Dream
(5) Stay Silent
Suggested Bet: Win (6) Thebelmontgangster
Race 8
(14) Oliveanotherday looks perfectly placed to win the Wangoom. Hard to back at the current price but equally hard to oppose. Lightly raced, handles all conditions and looks capable of higher-grade success.
(6) La Fracas will appreciate wet ground and is the highest-rated runner, though barrier three is a concern given his racing pattern.
(9) Press Down was excellent first up before a poor run at Ballarat. Can bounce back and should be on speed.
(4) Title Fighter was good in the Hareeba and can improve again.
Selections:
(14) Oliveanotherday
(6) La Fracas
(9) Press Down
(4) Title Fighter
Suggested Bet: Win (14) Oliveanotherday (only $2.60 or better)
Race 9
(13) Gwen’s Girl is the epitome of a five-furlong horse and is extremely fast. Went too hard in a strong Flemington race last time but has jumped out well and gets Linda aboard.
(8) Wintry is a talented filly who can improve off a break and may suit a testing 1000m.
(12) Du Clisson ran a peak figure in a strong Saturday race last start.
(1) Boonie can outrun his odds.
Selections:
(13) Gwen’s Girl
(8) Wintry
(12) Du Clisson
(1) Boonie
Suggested Bet: Win (13) Gwen’s Girl
Race 10
(7) Royal Emblem beat the talented Mukhtalif at Windsor before heading to Australia and looks an interesting runner.
(8) Colour Our World is very consistent but may have a slight query at the testing 2000m.
(14) Foire De Trone won over a shorter trip last start and can improve second up.
(10) Inherently backs up quickly after a peak run but the 2000m on testing ground may stretch him.
Selections:
(7) Royal Emblem
(8) Colour Our World
(14) Foire De Trone
(10) Inherently
Suggested Bet: No bet
