Yulong has answered punters’ prayers, announcing on Thursday star mares Treasurethe Moment and Via Sistina will clash in this year’s Cox Plate.
It’s the final running of the Cox Plate with the famous Moonee Valley track in its current configuration before it’s ripped up and reconfigured and it could well provide one of the most memorable editions seen in Australasia’s WFA Championship.
“Yulong has today confirmed that spring stars Via Sistina (IRE) and Treasurethe Moment will both take aim at the Gr.1 Cox Plate on October 25th at Moonee Valley,” a statement read.
However, Yulong will plot different paths for the pair en route to the Cox Plate as they attempt to gobble up more Group 1 success.
Via Sistina burned the turf at The Valley last year, smashing Winx’s 2040m track record in one of the most remarkable Cox Plate performances ever witnessed.
She resumed with a blistering win in the Group 1 Winx Stakes, quickly asserting herself as the number one seed for this year’s Cox Plate.
However, Treasurethe Moment quickly returned serve, belting a star-studded field in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes first-up, stamping her Cox Plate credentials.
Treasurethe Moment will run in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington next week before tackling the Group 1 Might And Power Stakes on October 11.
Via Sistina is likely to stay in Sydney for her next run, with the $1 million 7 Stakes at Randwick her next target before coming to Melbourne for the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes.
Via Sistina currently heads the market at $2.30 with Bet365 while Trasurethe Moment is a $6 chance.
