Horses To Follow

Race 2 (1207m BM70) – No.5 Zarkana

Keen to follow Zarkana onto a bigger track hopefully next start. She has had 3 runs this prep, all at Gawler. She was a winner easily 1st up when down in grade but her last two starts at metro level have both been run in races with exceptionally slow to-600m tempos. For a runner who gets back in the race, she is always going to struggle to win off these slow tempos which we saw Saturday with her running the fastest L600m of the meeting but leaving herself too much to do. She may be better served on a bigger track and a faster run race.

Race 4 (1107m Class 1) – No.2 Beachbarbeckons

The winner of this race, Arabella Star, clearly was too good for this field producing a big run to win but the run of the resuming Beachbarbeckons caught the eye. He was 1st up here off no official trials and did appear to be quite green in patches through the run. In the straight he found a tiny bit of traffic, which likely didn’t help, but when the gap appeared he did push through and managed to run on and finish 2nd. This was only his 2nd career run and it did look like there was a good scope for improvement so following to see if he turns up in a similar level race next time.
