Two of Australia’s best racehorses have been retired to stud.
Star sprinter Tentyris and Victorian Derby winner Observer will both head to the breeding barn despite a belief they would race on in 2026.
Tentyris, a two time Group 1 winner who was electrifying to win the Lightning Stakes earlier this year over the 1000m, before a disappointing fifth in the Newmarket Handicap. His last run saw him come last in the TJ Smith.
His most famous win, however, was in the Coolmore Stakes, where he set the fastest time in the race’s history.
The colt won more than $2.6 million in prize money and will stand at stud for $88,000 in NSW.
Victorian Derby winner Observer retires as a dual Group 1 winner having also won the Australian Guineas this year. He retires a four-time Group winner from 1,400m through to 2,500 metres.
Observer also won more than $2.6 million in prize money will stand at stud in Victoria for $33,000.
“Tentyris and Observer are two of the best horses of their generation,” said Alastair Pulford, Head of Stallions at Darley.
“They’ve won the right races, against the right opposition, and both bring pedigrees that consistently produce at the highest level. Breeders know better than anyone how thin the market is for elite new locally raced stallions this season.
“We’ve seen strong early interest in both and are already speaking with breeders as they plan for the season.”
