Punters were left floored when 8yo mare Rumbled Again claimed the Group 3 Summoned Stakes at $31.
However, the win didn’t shock trainer Mick Trotter, who joked after the race that “as usual, she flies under the radar and no one gives her any credit.”
It was her first win since taking out the same race last year at $26. Since that 2024 Summoned Stakes victory she’d managed only one placing from ten starts, although she’d had her share of bad luck along the way.
The race itself was a muddle, with no early tempo. At the 300m it looked like Rumbled Again might suffer another hard luck story, with Craig Williams travelling sweetly but bottled up behind a wall of runners.
Willo didn’t panic. He threaded the needle when a gap finally appeared, and once the mare saw daylight she did the rest.

“Her runs in all her races this time in have been super except the last run here with the hard track,” Trotter said.
“She just hasn’t had any luck.”
Rumbled Again ran last in the Crystal Mile at The Valley on Cox Plate Day before beating three runners home in the Chester Manifold Stakes on Oaks Day.
“I felt that two weeks ago at The Valley but we were never in the race, unfortunately. She had really good sectionals late and she ran well at Flemington on Thursday (Oaks Day).”
“She was two lengths closer than she was last year so it was just a matter of getting everything right. We got there and Craig got her out, fortunately, and we got the result.”
Rumbled Again narrowly held off the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained Blindedbythelight.
