Today’s Warrnambool meeting is headlined by the feature race The Jericho over 4600m.
It is a wonderful initiative inspired by Bill Gibbins and with the assistance of Racing Victoria and the Warrnambool Race Club, it has become a major focal point on the racing calendar. The race is in honour of the ANZAC Light Horsemen Brigade in The Middle East during The First World War. Towards the end of the war, the brigade organised a race named “The Jericho Cup”. The race was won by the famous ‘Bill The Bastard’ who has been referred to as Australia’s greatest War Horse. This race is a tribute to those who served through that period.

Turf Talk:
- Track is rated a Soft 7, but there is rain forecast in periods through the day, depending on what falls, a track downgrade is likely so working off a wet track.
- The rail will come into the True position for today.
- Generally in these conditions the track plays fairly and expect winners to come from a variety of positions and race tempos will be key.
Key Stats:
- Jordyn Weatherley is riding in great form, and she has a great record here at Warrnambool. She boasts a winning strike rate of 22% returning a POT of +69.6%
Race 6 No.9 COLOUR OUR WORLD
COLOUR OUR WORLD is resuming here today in what looks likely to be ideal conditions. She will appreciate a wet track and clearly her best career runs have come here on her home track. Her recent trial form has been solid so this set up looks likely to give her every chance given she looks to be coming in here in good order fresh.
Race 9 NO.12 DARKBONEE (BEST)
The lightly raced DARKBONEE looks the class runner of this field based off the level he reached during his debut campaign. He resumes down in grade here and his recent trial form has been outstanding including a recent trial win on a heavy track which suggests the conditions shouldn’t be an issue. Drawn out wide but if the track is as wet as expected, that should be no disadvantage.
