Turf Talk:
- Tight track with a sharp home bend that favours horses on speed/inside
- Last meeting was put up a Soft 5 before racing as a Heavy 10+. Be interesting to see how it has recovered. Comes up a Good 4 on race morning and with fine weather forecast, expect it to get to a Good 3.
- Track with limited resources that only races in summer, so keep an eye on any pattern that may emerge.
Race 4
This is a lovely race for Montjuic Magic. She has the runs on the board through previous campaigns and jump-outs leading into this campaign have been excellent, especially her most recent hit-out when leading all the way.
The 1100m start at Stony Creek is one of the better on the track with a long run into the sharp home bend, so she has plenty of time to get over from the wide draw. She also has the requisite tactical speed to lead this race.
Debutant Back Up Barbie looks the danger. She has shown talent in jump-outs and can run well on debut.
Suggested bet: Keen on Monjuic Magic. Think $3.30 is a great price – should start shorter.
Race 6
Dani California failed on debut last campaign but that was a heavy deck. Trialled well this time in and duly saluted first-up at Wangaratta. That has proven a strong maiden, already, with a couple of subsequent winners coming from the race. Gets a young apprentice in the saddle but looks fairly uncomplicated ride here. Clearly the horse to beat and think there’s fat in the $2.50 on offer.
Suggested bet: Backing Dani California
