Turf Talk:
- Stony Creek is a tight turning track where it’s generally an advantage to be on speed.
- Rail true as usual, track a Soft 5
- Fine weather should see it dry out as the meeting goes on.
Race 3
(7) Somethingintheair looks hard to beat. His Caulfield trial leading into the campaign was very good, but he only had the one hit-out coming off a 31 week break, which suggests he’s open to plenty of improvement. First up at Cranbourne he covered ground in a stronger Maiden but didn’t shirk the task late. The step to 1100m is suitable and Jake Noonan should be able to press forward and either lead, or sit outside (8) Farnanheit, who is first-up. Think Somethingintheair should be shorter.
Farnanheit hadn’t shown much in jump-outs this time in until the blinkers went on in his latest effort. Do think he wants further than 1100m but the soft draw should help him settle on speed without too much effort and this isn’t a strong Maiden.
(10) Brazen Diva maps well but was just fair last time out and is deep into the campaign now while (5) Pull My Finger is the other winning hope but he’s got a sticky map.
Suggested bet: Like Somethingintheair – $4.50 appeals.
Race 4
This is a picnic race.
The toppy, (1) Finance Shogun has the most upside. He was OK without much luck first up at Cranbourne and then had a total forgive at the same track last time out when working out deep on the track. Trial between runs with Olivia East (rides today) was good, suggesting he may be ready to improve. Drops wildly in grade here and gets in well after East’s claim.
(2) Luna Field gets Brad Rawiller in the saddle and also drops into a weaker race. Has the early speed to overcome the wide draw. Looks the main danger.
Suggested bet: Small WIN bet (1) Finance Shogun, something on the 1,2 Quinella.
