Track Pattern Outlook
- Rail is in the true, which is the same position it was in the straight at the last meeting. However, the rail was out 3m home bend on that occasion, so the inside patch is fresh.
- Drying track, suspect horses on speed/nearer rail get their chance.
- Wangaratta has a lovely, long straight for those good enough to make ground.
Key Wangaratta Stats
- Craig Weeding is striking at 15% from his last 100 runners but a PoT of 43.5% for the punters. Flycatcher (race 4) looks a good chance for the stable.
- Anthony & Sam Freedman are 19 from 50 at Wangaratta. Striking at 38% with a PoT of 42.2%.
- Blaike McDougall has ridden 20 winners from his last 100 rides.
Overview
Race 4 No.1 Flycatcher
Yes, it has been 758 days since this gelding has won, but he has been racing against much stronger company. He was good first up at Wodonga before racing in the inferior ground at Sale last start. He looks well suited here: third up, senior jockey taking over, down in class and from a low draw. Can’t believe they are betting $10 – I think he should be favourite.
Race 8 No.7 Mawhera
This bloke is airborne and he drops significantly in class toady (from a BM64 to a 0-58). He got a mile back at Sandown last time out but it the line extremely well. He was also good from the tail without luck at Bairnsdale the start prior. The knock is he will need some luck from a low draw, but there’s plenty of speed in the race and jockey Lauren Burke knows the horse well so hopefully she can do the business.
