Owners dream of the moment when their horse races past the post first and wins. But a dream that woke Craig Sneesby one night left a name ringing in his ears, and that name has become a reality.
The Queensland recruiter had just taken a share in an I Am Invincible filly, out of the well-performed Bonny O’reilly, and when he heard the name Ciaron’s Star in a dream, his next move was to ring Ciaron Maher.
“The dream was so vivid that I could feel myself cheering her home,” Sneesby said. “I could hear the caller saying Ciaron’s Star is clear and going to win.
“I rang Ciaron and told him that’s what we needed to call the filly, but I don’t think he was too happy with the name.
“It had nothing to do with being Ciaron’s pick of the sale, as many people think. It’s about the dream.
“The only thing about the dream, they were going the Melbourne direction, so it couldn’t be the Golden Slipper.”
Ciaron’s Star is already a two-year-old winner and will attempt to get into the Golden Slipper via the Magic Night Stakes on Saturday.
The trainer laughed when asked about the name.
“I said to him you heard it in a dream,” Maher said with a laugh. “That’s good.”
“She is a nice filly and is going to get better, but the name might hold her back a bit.
“She’s forward enough to have a crack at getting in the Slipper and with the right luck she could get there.”
