Summary of Best Bets:

Race 4 No.2 Fly By Light
Race 6 No.8 Gentle Steel (Best)
Race 7 No.3 Pop Award

Turf talk:

  • Rain around in Victoria looks likely to have this track at a Soft rating through the meeting depending on the amount of rainfall that comes
  • The rail remains in the True position as it was at the previous meeting here.
  • Advantage usually sits with runners who settle in the front half of the field in running here and expect the advantage again to be with horses who settle on speed.

Key stats:

  • Clinton McDonald’s runners usually go well here at Cranbourne, at this track alone his stable has a winning strike rate of 22.2% at a POT of +28.7%
  • Ben Melham is in super form riding 19 winners in his last 100 rides and at a healthy POT of +16.3%. He also has a positive return here at the Cranbourne track alone

Race by race overview

Race 4:

(2) Fly By Light was super impressive on debut when winning at this track easily. He needs to take the step up in level for this race but gets race map favours and will likely be on speed which should suit and any improvement on what he did first up should rate him highly in this race. (3) Lyrics ‘N’ Song looks the main danger. (1) Tower Bridge has claims again while (7) Arlington Row rounds out the chances.

Selections:

(2) Fly By Light
(3) Lyrics ‘N’ Song
(1) Tower Bridge
(7) Arlington Row

Suggested Bet: (2) Fly By Light WIN

Race 6:

Plenty of speed is expected in this race over the short sprint, but it is a tricky race map for some who have to deal with wide barriers. This should set up well for (8) Gentle Steel who gets the race map favours from an inside barrier and looks likely to get to a strong position on speed easily while others may have to work to find spots from out wide. He was a winner first-up but has improved second-up previously to win so expect in a favourable set up he may prove hard to catch. (5) Egerton looks the danger ahead of (4) Cannyworth and (7) Blackberry Bomb.

Selections:

(8) Gentle Steel
(5) Egerton
(4) Cannyworth
(7) Blackberry Bomb

Suggested Bet: (8) Gentle Steel WIN

Race 7:

(3) Pop Award kicks off her campaign in tonight’s feature race. She has previously been good in first-up races (3:2-0-1) so is capable of a strong fresh performance and feel she gets a favourable set up in this race as she boasts a good record at the 1200m and can handle a wet track. At her best she should prove hard to beat. (1) A Little Deep looks the main danger with (4) Give Me Space and (7) Celsius Star next best.

Selections:

(3) Pop Award
(1) A Little Deep
(4) Give Me Space
(7) Celsius Star

Suggested Bet: (3) Pop Award WIN
