Henry Dwyer is already a Royal Ascot-winning trainer, but he will look to break new ground for an Australian by winning one of the two-year-old events at this year’s Royal meeting after buying a Kodiac filly at last week’s Craven Sale.
She will join Europe’s champion sprinter Asfoora and Dwyer’s two purchases from last year’s autumn Sale, Synners Kid and Skiathos with Royal intentions.
It was a well-thought-out approach by Dwyer, who paid 72,000 guineas for the Kodiac filly out of a Scat Daddy’s mare Beychella.
“I was coming over this week to have a look at the horses, and this sale was on, so my little brain got working, and I thought we may as well have a two-year-old as well,” Dwyer told Tattersalls.
“Lemos de Souza is looking after them for us, and we look forward to getting this filly to the races.
“You never know, she might end up at Royal Ascot too.”
Dwyer had done his research and knew the filly was a good mover and he is hopeful that will result in racecourse success.
It means he has four horses in work in England, with a staff member overseeing their preparation for the next couple of months.
“She was prepped up by Ellie Whitaker, who runs her pre-training operation Longholes. She pre-trained Asfoora for us and she had always said this filly [was one] she really likes,” Dwyer said.
“She feels it is a superior two-year-old, and it is ready to go straight to the races.
“Certainly, the idea is for her to race here [in England], but she will end up in Australia at some stage.
“It’s all or nothing now, but she is that type of horse. She is a nice, big strong filly and ready to go now. We will pop her through the barriers a couple of times.
“I would like to think we could find a race for her and go and win, but it is not as easy as that.”
Dwyer will be part of the biggest Australian contingent at Royal Ascot for many years with Bjorn Baker confirming Overpass will get on a plane alongside TJ Smith winner Joliestar and Generosity for Chris Waller, while Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott hope to take Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot and Mick Price and Michael Kent junior trainer Charm Stone will go provide she runs well in next weekend’s Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide.
