You could have almost bought 1000 Where’s The Circuses for one Vatican but they are treated equally in Saturday’s Inglis Nursery.
Kembla Grange trainer Paul Murray brings his Trapeze Artist filly, which cost $1250 on the Inglis Digital platform, to Randwick as a barrier trial winner and the cheapest purchased runner in the $400,000 race.
At the other end of the spectrum is blueblood Vatican, which flys the flag for the Coolmore-Chris Waller colts syndicate after Tom Magnier won the son of late super stallion Wootton Bassett with a $1.2 million bid at the Inglis Easter Sale.
Murray also knows a bit about Where’s The Circus’ family after having the first two from her mum, Fastnet Rock mare Misplaced, Where’s Snippy and Can’t Find Snippy.
“They were both handy horses and won their races, so when we saw this girl online we were interested, and a couple of bids later, we owned her,” Murray said.
“They start at $600, and Michelle [Ritchie, Murray’s partner] did the bidding and we were very happy to get her for $1250.
“She goes all right as well.”
“This is the dream to run in this race for big money and we will find out how good she might be.”
If Where’s The Circus can beat one home in the Nursery, she will earn $5000, more than the Inglis series fee and purchase price.
She is the $151 outsider in the restricted two-year-old race for Inglis graduates, but there is a touch of confidence in the team coming up from Kembla.
Where’s The Circus won her only trial last week, sitting three-wide outside the lead over 800m on her home track. and ran home in 33.03 seconds. It was enough for Jean Van Overmeire to give up all his rides at Newcastle on Saturday.
“She has won a barrier trial, and Jean, who is a good judge, just said to me ‘where are you going with her?’” Murray said.
“He was happy to give quite up a few rides on Saturday to stick with her – that’s a good sign.”
“I think we will be in front with her after Saturday, it’s just a question of how much.”
