Racing industry figure James Tzaferis has been unveiled as Murray Bridge’s new general manager.
But the coup for the club means he will farewell Betsy.
Tzaferis, formerly a leading broadcaster at racing.com, began his new role this week.
He has led the way on several important stories for Betsy, especially regarding the ongoing Formestane drug saga in Victoria.
Tzaferis broke the story regarding the ongoing debate around whether scores of trainers are actually innocent of doping their horses.
Racing Victoria eventually agreed to conduct important research into the matter which could later prove those charged and found guilty might have done nothing wrong.
Betsy founder Paul Tatnell said Tzaferis not only knew how to break important news, but he was trusted by racing participants to tell their stories.
‘’James is the ultimate professional who loves racing, respected in the industry and knows a great story,’’ he said.
‘’We’re stoked for JT that he has this opportunity, but obviously comes with a tinge of sadness that we won’t have him anymore for Betsy.
‘’He has done important work for us, and given how talented he his in front and behind the camera, we hope his involvement in racing media isn’t done yet.
‘’Matt Welsh and I wish him the best for not only his new role, but more importantly, as he and Jess become parents.”
Tzaferis said he was looking forward to working with a club and community he knows well.
“This is a bit of a change of pace for me but I’m excited to step into club-land as General Manager of the Murray Bridge Racing Club,” he said.
“I’m a local that is passionate about racing, especially in this community, so I am very excited to be a part of writing the Club’s next chapter.
“I’ve loved my time in racing media, particularly at Betsy, where I was afforded a level of freedom and editorial independence.”
