Turf Talk
- Kilmore is a unique track with a significant downhill run as they come around the home bend then an uphill straight. Plenty of horses don’t handle it, so ‘Kilmore form’ can be worth noting.
- It’s a momentum track. Those on speed generally have an edge, but provided jockeys get their horse rolling down the hill, they can make ground.
- The track has been progressively drying out across the week.
- The 1200m start is the best on the track, with a good run down the back straight before they start turning.
- The 1400m start is precarious, with runners turning shortly after they jump, so position in running is crucial.
Race 3
Like (5) Fully Funded. She was heavily backed on debut at Kyneton and just spotted the leader and winner too big a start, narrowly missing when running second. She had trialled nicely prior and the step to 1450m today looks ideal. Lachie Neindorf takes the ride and he’s in good form at the moment, adding to confidence levels.
The danger might prove (4) Certainly Quiet who resumes. She ran very well first-up last campaign at Ballarat, producing the day’s best last 400m and 200m splits when a fast-finishing fifth. Jump-outs this time in have been good.
Suggested Bet: Back (5) Fully Funded.
Race 4
Happy to take on (2) Man Of The Sea who I thought had every conceivable hope on speed at Pakenham first-up. This is easier, yes, but the jump-outs and racetrack performance aren’t overly encouraging.
(6) Tag Time and (10) Mahmudah come through the same race at Seymour last time out and that looks the right form reference.
Mahmudah covered plenty of ground there (albeit out of the chute) but stuck on really well to the line. Her last two runs have been excellent and she showed ability last campaign. Drawn for an ideal run today and looks ready to win.
Tag Time was awkwardly placed in behind the leader and didn’t really get clear when Damien Lane wanted. His only other start was at Kyneton where he copped a big bump when making a wide run around the home bend. Maps to settle just off what looks a strong speed.
Suggested Bet: Back (10) Mahmudah and (6) Tag Time.
