Feature racing heads to Launceston on Friday night with a nine-race card headlined by the $50,000 Tasmanian St Leger.

It’s a strong night of racing, with the Summer Racing Festival form extending into March.

The rail is in the +1m position with a fine weather forecast.

R1 Ladbrokes Big Bets Maiden, 1200m

Three key winning hopes. Liked the way UNFILTERED (4) hit the line on debut and getting to the 1200m looks beneficial. ARIANNA’S GOLD (5) went well first up and maps to get an uncontested lead. I’M A MACHINE (1) resumes from a spell after showing promise in his first preparation. Has a tendency to be slowly away but has a strong finish. TIGERS ON TOP (6) has the benefit of barrier one and gets blinkers on again, include in first 4’s.

Staking Strategy: Unfiltered closed off strongly on debut and has the extra trip in her favour tonight. 1 unit to win UNFILTERED (4).

R2 Good Friday Easter Egg Giveaways Maiden, 1600m

VEINS WITHIN ROCK (8) was a big run in defeat here on Cup Day after covering ground and draws to get a better run in transit this time. CALLED THROUGH (2) couldn’t be going any better, has been consistent all preparation and is close to breaking through. ALPINE WHISKEY (1) gets out to a more suitable trip than last start and from the good gate should have little trouble finding the lead. TEAM HEIST (11) made steady improvement second up and can only improve again over more ground. Maps to settle much handier. LORD HEAR US (6) has been freshened and gets blinkers on for the first time but drawn 14 of 14 is a challenge. GEE GEES BROTHER (4) is building nicely after a long layoff. TURFACTION (7) last run was inconclusive after being badly hampered while the 1600m looks a positive for UP TO TORI (14).

Staking Strategy: The wide gate worked against Veins Within Rock last outing. He gets a better set up here. 4 units to win VEINS WITHIN ROCK (8)

R3 Go Racing On Good Friday 3rd April 3yo Maiden, 1200m

DIZZ BOOGIE TIME (7) struck trouble in the straight on debut. She went to the line untested and should have finished several lengths closer. WALKING STREET (4) went around favourite on Cup Day in a similar maiden but lost all hope at the start after rearing and losing several lengths. Impressed at the trials in the lead-up and is worth another chance. KHALEESI’S DREAM (8) was solid off a wide run on debut and gets a better set up here.  Despite racing too keenly last time DENNYSON (1) was a much-improved effort finishing just out of the placings. Each-way claims for LUCKY COUNTRY (2) who resumes with a couple of trials under the belt. First starter MR TOD (3) has blinkers on and is worth consideration for first 4’s.

Staking Strategy: Any of the top 4 in the market could win without surprising. Dizz Boogie Time beaten margin was unfair on debut after racing in restricted room. 1 unit to win DIZZ BOOGIE TIME (7).

R4 Book A Function @ The Ladbrokes Racing Centre Class 1 Handicap, 1200m

ZAMBEZI BLONDE (2) ran extremely well in a much harder race last start and clearly the testing material. If he runs up to that effort he should be too good. RUSHONOVA (5) comes straight off a maiden win. She was quite dominant and she made light work of her wide gate. GEEGEES DOWNPOUR (3) was good when second-placed here behind Artillery Fire and had the rest well & truly covered. REDAIR (7) won her maiden two runs back then failed to measure up in a harder race at Hobart. Has been freshened for this and gets blinkers on for the first time. ROYAL HILL (1) resumes and trialled well at Devonport beating a subsequent winner. He won first up last preparation.

Staking Strategy: On the strength of his last run behind Swift Force, the $1.65 being offered on race-day morning for Zambezi Blonde seems a very fair price. 4 units to win ZAMBEZI BLONDE (2).

R5 Ladbrokes Mates Mode Class 4, 1400m

JUST CRUISIN’ (1) brings the best form credentials. Has been racing well in much stronger company all preparation. This is a much easier assignment.  FIORENTE DE LEGEND (2) couldn’t be going any better. All her wins have been at Hobart but has run some good races here. NAVARRE RIVER (3) recent form also hard to fault. Was narrowly denied last time this track and trip. SISTER ROYAL (4) resumes and having her first start for a new stable. She’s unbeaten in Tasmania from 4 outings.

Staking Strategy: Just Cruisin’ form is a class above his rivals and should be winning. 4 units to win JUST CRUISIN’ (1).

R6 Carlton & United Breweries Class 1 Handicap, 1400m

ACCUSAIENT (3) closed off well behind Novalargo and should be suited stepping up in trip. VIXEN’S MOON (2) ran respectably in tougher company last time and does look well placed here. WHO’S IN DEV (4) won this track and trip on Cup Day after being well rated in the lead. She’s a consistent filly with upside. THE PIRATE QUEEN (6) had every hope when narrowly beaten behind behind Thonatus but maps for a similar run. SEDITIOUS AWARD (5) finally broke through at Hobart. The third placed horse has  since franked the form. ROUNDLE PARK (1) next best but looks a risk at the 1400m.

Staking Strategy: Accusaient maps to settle a bit closer than last start and looks ready now for this trip fourth run back. 2 units to win ACCUSAIENT (3).

R7 House Of Arras Open Handicap, 1100m

IN THE OCEAN (2) never runs poorly this venue and past couple of efforts behind a couple of smart winners read well. The 1100m isn’t the ideal trip for PEROLA (3) but she’s racing in good form in stronger company. CHEROKEE DANCER (5) resumes and her fresh form is hard to fault. GOLDEN MEADOW (6) is chasing a hat-trick of wins but much harder here and dropping back to 1100m is more of a negative than a positive.

Staking Strategy: The 1100m is the query for Perola but her recent form is hard to knock and she’s bursting to win another race. 2 units to win PEROLA (3).

R8 Dynamic Finance Brokers Tasmania – Tasmanian St Leger, 2400m

ZULU ANGEL (5) bounced back to form last start at massive odds when finishing runner‑up in the Launceston Cup and he won this race last year. NIGHT INVADER (6) lead-up form doesn’t read as well as some of her rivals but she’s a chance at odds. DISTRUSTFUL AWARD (1) couldn’t be going any better but the sharp rise in weight the concern. WINEGLASS BAY (2) also faces a similar task up 4kg. VINO NOVELLO (8) returned to best last time in benchmark 64 grade. Harder here but gets nice weight relief. Have reservations whether MOORLANDS MISS (10) is good enough but ready to peak fourth run back and perfectly drawn.

Staking Strategy: Night Invader appeals at good odds. She didn’t have a lot of luck here 2 runs back. Thought her effort that night was on a par with Distrustful Award, who goes around favourite. 2 units each-way NIGHT INVADER (6).

R9 Ladbrokes Mega Multi Bm60 Handicap, 1200m

Toughest race of the night. Not many can be ruled out. SEVILLANA (1) has a run under the belt and she was good resuming and the extra 100m a plus. STAR WALKIN’ (6) form ties in with Sevillana. Rider and horse combine well. WEDNESDAY’S BOSS (10) has been getting too far back and gets blinkers on again. She might be worth sticking with. Last time she wore blinkers she was able to settle much handier. BLOOMTIME (3) last run was encouraging returning to this track and trip. GEEGEEHAILSTORM (8) was only narrowly beaten last time. She’s been consistent all prep without winning.  GEEGEES LEGACY (9) also in the mix. NOVALARGO (2) a last start winner in class 1 grade but harder here, albeit lightly raced.

Staking Strategy: The blinkers look to be a positive for Wednesdays Boss and she’s worth a small gamble. 1 unit each-way WEDNESDAY’S BOSS (10).
