Ciaron Maher could be set to look at an international jockey for Light Infantry Man with his regular riders out suspended.
Light Infantry Man’s usual rider, Ethan Brown, is suspended as is Mark Zahra.
Maher confirmed on Wednesday he would now look to UK based jockey Jamie Spencer.
Spencer was the regular rider of Light Infantry Man during the gelding’s time in the UK and travelled to Australia to partner him in the 2022 Golden Eagle at Rosehill.
”Light Infantry Man, he’s come through his first-up running great order, he’s feeling well and doing everything right,’’ he told said.
‘’And Ethan Brown is suspended, Mark Zahra is suspended. So I was talking to Jamie Spencer; I’ve got to confirm that, but he knows the horse quite well. He rode him out here in the Golden Rose and a lot of group one races in Europe, so it’d be good if he came out. We’ll firm that up.’’
Maher said Light Infantry Man is a ‘’quirky’’ horse that Spencer has ridden previously in Europe.
‘’Ethan obviously gets on with him very well, but yeah, it looks a nice race for him, weight-for-age and 1800m.’’
