Moment Of The Day: Tempted Proves Irresistible  – Tempted (R8)

Wow – what a first-up performance by this exceptional 3yo filly. She was making her debut for the Ciaron Maher camp while also auditioning for The Everest, and boy did she impress all tiers of racegoers.

In what was one of the strongest editions of the G2 Run To The Rose Stakes we’ve seen in some time, Tempted was steamed late in betting ($5 into $3.90) before receiving an absolute peach of a ride from Ethan Brown. She absorbed an above-average tempo before letting rip over the final 300m to win with arrogance — continuing Godolphin’s dominance of the race, making it five wins in a row and eight of the past eleven editions. (Tempted 2025, Traffic Warden 2024, Cylinder 2023, In Secret 2023, Anamoe 2021, Bivouac 2019, Astern 2016, Exosphere 2015).

She’s all class! 🙌

Tempted wins the Run To The Rose and becomes the second filly to do so! @godolphin have won 6 of the last 7 editions! 💪@cmaherracing @Brown_ethan8 pic.twitter.com/kV98PbGHnY

She also was only the second filly to win the race in the past 20 years, the other being In Secret in 2022 – we know what type of horse she matured to be.

The most pleasing part of the win was her ability to absorb pressure, land in a positive tactical position, and still show that explosive late sprint. Another factor that may not have been reported was her “poor: pre race manners – when looking very fresh and hot. If she can iron that out, look out. It screamed: “Get me over 1200m–1400m in a high-pressure race.” Is that race The Everest, or will she be saved for the Coolmore – or could we see both? My money is on the latter.

In behind her, Skyhook had absolutely no luck getting off the red-hot fence before running the best L200m of the race. Wodeton lost no admirers either, finishing strongly from off-speed and off-rails – not the setup you wanted at Rosehill.

Steer Of The Day – Ethan Brown on Juja Kibo (R3)

“Intent” was the key word in this week’s Steer of the Day. Juja Kibo had copped back-to-back plain rides — albeit winning two starts back — but last start he was asked to make up some 11L at the 800m when sent out a $3.00 favourite.

The key change on Saturday was the addition of the in-form Ethan Brown in the saddle and the shift in tactics to “settle further forward.” That he did, with Brown using the forgiving nature of the 2400m start to push forward early before slotting in outside the leader after around 300m.

Juja Kibo too strong 💪

The progressive stayer was ridden more forward today and saluted accordingly 🫡@Brown_ethan8 @cmaherracing pic.twitter.com/MNtqYyIUss

— 7HorseRacing 🐎 (@7horseracing) September 13, 2025

From there, it was game over. Juja Kibo was backed late ($4 into $2.80) and dispatched his rivals with ease, putting up 1.73L on the line and stamping the “progressive” tag firmly back on his profile.

Hindsight is always easy, but on reflection after the day’s racing it only cemented how important the move was. With the overall track pattern suiting those landing on speed – as it so often does – intent truly proved the difference.

A Shooting Star – Autumn Glow

As racing fans and punters, we can fall into the bad habit of the banality of excellence — excellence that becomes routine and, as a result, unremarkable in perception. We crave the unbeaten streaks that Winx and Black Caviar set as precedents, yet at the same time, we are always chasing the next “bet,” and can easily forget what we may be witnessing on the track.

This week, Autumn Glow reminded us exactly why she belongs in that elite conversation. Making it six wins on the trot with a commanding display in the Theo Marks, she not only reinforced her dominance but also highlighted her potential to step up to G1 company this spring. Each win isn’t just another statistic – it’s a statement, and one worth celebrating.

SIX OUT OF SIX 🤯

Autumn Glow does it easily again! She toys with them in the G2 Theo Marks on her way to the Epsom Handicap, how far can she go this spring? pic.twitter.com/1DSsnAyiBV

— 7HorseRacing 🐎 (@7horseracing) September 13, 2025

Off the back of the win, she firmed once again into $1.80 for the G1 Epsom Stakes, suggesting the extra 200m – and maybe even further – would see her improve further. Scary.

Her progression: BM72 → Up & Coming → G2 Tea Rose → Listed Darby Munro → G3 Toy Show → G2 Theo Marks → (G1 Epsom? Golden Eagle? Cox Plate?)

She is in the elite category of our racing stock at the moment, and every win should be celebrated as she looks to claim her first G1 this Spring.

The Flashing Light

R6 – Autumn Boy – Simply beaten by the pattern of the day. The progressive 3yo started a $2.60 favourite but landed off-speed and on the wrong part of the track. From there, he had no cart into the race, and with a soft tempo to the 600m, the task proved too big. That said, his final 200m was outstanding.

R8 – Skyhook – A tough watch for backers. He enjoyed a beautiful run in transit, just off the speed and importantly on the rails. From there, he was cramped as he looked to make his run, forced to check, angle out, and come off heels — all while the eventual winner, Tempted, was building into the race with clear air.

R9 – Pier – A somewhat forgotten run, with the unbeaten Autumn Glow stealing the spotlight in this year’s Theo Marks Stakes. Pier again had a less-than-ideal run in transit compared to the on-speed pattern of the day. He has a big race in him this spring.

“They” Knew – Punters Got The Cash

R3 – Juja Kibo: $4.00 into $2.80 late with a change of tactics delayed until race morning. This saw Juja Kibo land outside the leader with the new jockey aboard. From there, it was an easy watch for backers.

R8 – Tempted: Punters were more than tempted to take the $5.00 about Tempted on race morning. The 3yo filly was heavily backed late into $3.90, got a dream run, and effectively put the race to bed at the 200m mark.

R10 – Cristal Clear: Punters had the last say at Rosehill on what was a strong day for market-backed runners. Cristal Clear was $5.00 into $3.70 late before just running down second elect Captain Furai in the final 20m, capping off a solid day of racing.

They Left It In The Bag

R5 – Catch The Glory: $4.60 into $3.80 late as the track went from a. S7 in the morning to a S5 after R4 – Catch the glory was coming off an impressive last start win and again looked suited, he didnt have a whole lot of luck in the straight btu did get his chance over the final 100m.

R7 – Gangsta Granny: With Joliestar coming out on race morning, Gangsta Granny went around $2.00 instead of $1.80 off the back of a strong career peak at her last start. While she looked to get the ideal setup given the pattern of the day, she was posted three-wide the trip before weakening in the straight.

What You May Have Missed?

Jockey James Innes Jnr Charged

Not something we want to see in our game, but late in the week Racing NSW related the news that Licensed Jockey James Innes Jnr was issued “8 charges” following a investigation conducted by the Racing NSW Integrity Unit. (See Below)

No Charge For Adam Hyeronimus – Vauban/ Sir Delius

It was the talk post-race in last week’s G2 Chelmsford Stakes, where Sir Delius was posted wide before Adam Hyeronimus looked to find the breaks aboard Vauban, only for Sir Delius to cover and hold the 1-1 position throughout the run.

Chief Steward Tom Moxon told Hyeronimus at Rosehill on Saturday that there was no case for him to answer — and we move on.

Joliestar – Saved for G2 The Shorts (1100m)

Joliestar’s scratching from the G2 Sheraco Stakes at 8am on Saturday shocked most punters — track concerns? By later that day, word came she’d line up in a hot edition of the G2 The Shorts, alongside Private Harry and Briasa.

No complaints here — this shapes as a cracking race.

Social Media Sin Bin

Racing took the show on Saturday in Sydney, but on Sunday fans witnessed one of the best Preliminary Finals you’ll ever see, with the Broncos edging out the Raiders 29–28 after trailing by 16 points at one stage.

With the back-and-forth nature of the game and the Broncos down by 16, it brought out some of the best “early crows” you’ll ever see on X/Twitter. It’s good to see it’s not just in racing – calling a team home with 10 minutes to go and seeing them fold up and lose somehow haha.

How do like those apples ya show pony Walsh #nrlraidersbroncos
