Turf Talk
- Clearing conditions are forecast in the back half of the week, so with little rain expected we can expect improving conditions and work on a Soft 6/7 rated track.
- The rail pushes out from the previous meeting and will be in the True position for the entire.
- Expect a fair track in even conditions. Perhaps monitor if runners come away from the rails in the straight due to recent wear, but overall the track should play well.
Stats that matter
- Jean Van Overmeire comes to this meeting with a handy book of rides and is in strong form. He has ridden 20 winners from his last 100 rides, returning a POT of +3.07%.
- Brad Widdup’s strong form continues. He has produced 18 winners from his last 100 runners at a healthy POT of +15.9%.
Race by race overview
Race 1
(1) Seeiaye is second-up into this prep after a moderate run when first-up, but that result appears a forgivable effort as it was in a stronger race and he perhaps didn’t handle the conditions. Gets a better set-up here today and can improve.
(2) Lord Horatio was a winner on debut a month ago and looks to step up in grade now. He is a month between runs but has had a winning jump-out recently, looks progressive enough to be a strong chance.
(5) Rebel Royal is on debut. He has put in some strong trial form recently so looks ready to fire fresh and looks the best of the runners making their debut.
(8) Wootton You Know is a last start winner and maps to push forwards with a light weight so can land in a handy spot in run.
Selections:
(1) Seeiaye
(2) Lord Horatio
(5) Rebel Royal
(8) Wootton You Know
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 2
(9) Perfect Justice was hitting the line strongly last start when resuming, he is fitter now off that run and looks suited rising in distance today. Gets every chance to find enough improvement to be a winning chance.
(12) Callistemon was an eye-catcher in her resuming run here at Randwick. She is lighter at the weights and gets a softer map here than key rivals so with even luck today she can be a sharp improver on last start’s result.
(1) Promitto kicked off his campaign in a Listed race at Scone but had his issues there and finished out the back, he can be a sharp improver dropping in grade and with a favourable race map.
(14) Whoa Nellie has won 2 in a row and comes to contest a stronger race but is in super form and hard to knock
Selections:
(9) Perfect Justice
(12) Callistemon
(1) Promitto
(14) Whoa Nellie
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 3
(8) Wayburn hit the line strongly last start but couldn’t quite do enough to win and had to settle for second. This race appears no harder and he maps for better run so if he can settle closer like he did two starts ago at Ipswich he can improve enough to be winning.
(4) Exit Fee was the runner who defeated Wayburn last time out, can again be a winning chance in a very similar race but will need to handle the heavy weight this time.
(5) Occult kicked off this campaign in strong form and then went to Scone and ran midfield over the 1600m trip. Not sure he appreciated that distance and looks suited back at a shorter trip and can improve.
(12) Wear The Crown kicked off this prep with two wins before tackling a stronger race last start, can improve dropping back in grade
Selections:
(8) Wayburn
(4) Exit Fee
(5) Occult
(12) Wear The Crown
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 4
(4) Island Dream is on the quick back-up after a strong performance last week. It was a sharp improvement from her first-up run after she looked to be lame. She was hitting the line strongly late so a slight rise here in distance should suit and if the track remains quite wet it should be ideal.
(5) Amreekiyah was well supported at Scone coming in off a freshen-up but didn’t have everything go her way in the run, she should be fitter for that run and her strongest form rates well in this grade.
(8) Bird Whistle is stepping up in grade after a strong win last start at Scone. He maps for run of the race and can push forward and control the tempo from out in front.
(10) Nasebah was a big winner when making her Australian debut at Randwick. She is light in the weights for this and could be capable of rising through her grades, but the inside barrier could prove tricky for a get-back type.
Selections:
(4) Island Dream
(5) Amreekiyah
(8) Bird Whistle
(10) Nasebah
Suggested Bet: (4) Island Dream each-way
Race 5
(11) Sunsprite was a winner as a short-priced favourite two starts back before stepping up in grade to a similar level race to this and hitting the line strongly to finish a close third. She was the clear eye-catcher of that race so like her rising to the 2000m trip today.
(1) Agent Zero was the winner of the race that Sunsprite comes out of and has won two in a row now. He is in super form which is hard to knock but will have to do it with a big weight.
(3) Decalogue won easily in maiden grade last start and steps up in level here. If he can get to the front and get a soft lead again, he could prove tough to catch at this distance.
(9) Simply Gold maps softly and is light in at the weights so sets up for another strong run. Wetter conditions will be ideal for his chances.
Selections:
(11) Sunsprite
(1) Agent Zero
(3) Decalogue
(9) Simply Gold
Suggested Bet: (11) Sunsprite win
Race 6
(6) Ice Kool was well supported last week in a race he was an emergency in but didn’t end up gaining a start there and has had to wait an extra week. This looks an easier race, and his recent trial form has been outstanding so suggest he can fire here first-up in a race that looks a suitable kick-off point.
(1) Amazing Eagle ran second when resuming in a similar race to this two weeks ago. He gets in fitter now and improving track conditions could help him find enough improvement to win.
(4) Prima Bella kicked off this prep with a solid win, there doesn’t appear to be a great deal of speed in this race so she could find herself forward in the run and prove tough to catch getting her own way out in front.
(3) Big Red Tequila resumes, her form last prep was super in races that rate similar to this and she has a consistent first-up record so if she kicks off in the same form she finished last prep in she looks well set up.
Selections:
(6) Ice Kool
(1) Amazing Eagle
(4) Prima Bella
(3) Big Red Tequila
Suggested Bet: (6) Ice Kool win
Race 7
A race that looks super competitive but also a tricky one to map which may make it tough for some. (3) Point And Shoot represents good value, the wide barrier may not be ideal, but he is a get-back horse generally anyway, so if the track is fair he can be in the race late and will find this an easier grade than the race he ran a close second in last start.
(11) Lugh resumes, he has been solid at the trials but also has a super record when first-up into a prep (3:2-0-0). He can get a positive run in this field and land in a prominent position.
(6) Midnight Dynamite is in super form having won two in a row so far this prep and conditions look suitable, but the wide barrier makes it tough, and he will need luck for the right run.
(4) Cool Jakey is coming in fresh and dropping in grade, if he can jump and be positive in the run he could prove tough to catch.
Selections:
(3) Point And Shoot
(11) Lugh
(6) Midnight Dynamite
(4) Cool Jakey
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 8
Today’s feature race does look very open but gives us good value. (4) Accredited resumes and looks to be set up in ideal conditions. He has only missed the top three once when first-up into a prep (6:2-2-1) and has a super record at this track. Expecting a positive run for him and he looks best suited in this set-up.
(3) General Salute is another runner resuming, his form last prep was competitive in stronger races, so this looks a suitable grade for him to kick off in. He may be better over more ground deeper into the prep but looked good in a recent trial win.
(7) Chidiac has won three in a row and deserves a crack at a stronger race based off that form. She has race fitness on her side versus some rivals so could take catching.
(16) Wanaruah gets the run as an emergency now, he has a light weight vs rivals and can race prominently up on speed, he is in super form and deserves a crack at a stronger race
Selections:
(4) Accredited
(3) General Salute
(7) Chidiac
(16) Wanaruah
Suggested Bet: (4) Accredited each-way
Race 9
The race looks likely to have a moderate speed which could see (5) Formal Display get run of the race jumping from barrier two and the likely leader. His form this prep has been super, and he is in well at the weights after a claim so can take catching.
(2) Know Thyself jumps from the widest barrier but has the advantage of some early speed and if the tempo is soft early, he can get across quickly and find position. If he gets the right run early, he can be competitive given he has won three from three at this track.
(6) God’s Window is a last-start winner and steps up in level off that. He has a good record at this distance and maps for a softer run this week so should get every chance again.
(16) Collect Your Cash resumes, he is undefeated 1st up previously so can fire fresh but will need luck early from the wider barrier
Selections:
(5) Formal Display
(2) Know Thyself
(6) God’s Window
(11) Declichy Boulevard
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 10
(16) Nitro was good when resuming and running a close second at Scone. He was slick through the line late so a slight rise in distance will suit.
(4) Glorious Moments kicked off this campaign with an easy win at Warwick Farm. He was a winner second-up last prep so has the scope to improve in the set-up he is faced with again here today but needs luck from the wide barrier.
(11) Crossbow showed improvement last start when running second at this track. He remains in a similar set-up while key rivals are rising in level so if he can hold his form, he may prove tough to get past.
(15) Invader Zim is a last start winner in a similar race, if he can hold form from that race he should be set up again to go close
Selections:
(16) Nitro
(4) Glorious Moments
(11) Crossbow
(15) Invader Zim
Suggested Bet: No bet
