Gun jockey Damian Lane will pick up the ride on star young colt Tentyris.
The Godolphin star and Coolmore winner is usually ridden by fellow top Melbourne rider Mark Zahra, who revealed last week he had suffered a fracture to his tibia.
While he is still aiming for a return this autumn, with projections it’s usually a 4-6 week injury, Lane will again partner with Tentyris for the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes at Flemington on Febuary 14.
“So Mark’s been really transparent. Obviously, he’s still waiting on some results and scans and whatnot,” trainer Sam Freedman told racing.com.
“But Damien Lane’s been booked to ride him for the Lightning.”
“So he’ll have a sit on him in the next week or so. And he obviously rode him in the Blue Diamond as well. So it was sort of a pretty worthy sort of recipient of the ride and I think he’s pretty excited to get on him.”
Zahra posted on his Instagram account that he won’t be riding for at least “the next few weeks”.
“Unfortunately, after an incident in the barriers at Sandown trials, scans have shown that I have a small fracture to the top of my tibia,” he said.
“I am currently waiting on more information from my doctor on next steps and timeframe on my return.”
“But as it stands, I’ll be out of the saddle for the next few weeks. Stay safe out there kids.”
