Overpass has won two Quokkas and two Winterbottoms at Ascot and should be able to lead again in the Gold Rush and control the race.
“If he can get his own way in front, he will be very hard to run down,” Baker said. “It’s a good time to give him another at the 1400m because I think he is stronger and going as well as ever.”
“If he can run well it opens a few more options for him.”
“We are looking to start him off in the TJ Smith or Quokka next year and probably have a similar program to this year.”
While he hasn’t won a race in 2025, Overpass was runner-up in the TJ, fourth in The Everest and runner-up in the Winterbottom, banking $2.5 million for the year.
“He’s not a bad horse to have in the stable and never lets us down,” Baker said.
Overpass is rated a $5 chance in the Gold Rush. Jokers Grin is the $3 favourite in front of Rope Them In at $4.50, while Rey Magnerio, third in the Winterbottom, is a $6 chance.
Across the other side of the country, Baker will saddle up Robusto as he defends his Ingham crown at Randwick.
“He will need to improve with the extra weight he has after winning it last year,” he said.
