Race 7: (Maiden)
(8) TIANTAI was the standout performer at the Taupo trials, a big and scopey filly ready to improve on two fair efforts in her maiden campaign. With her main rival scratched, expect her forward of midfield with Michael McNab replacing Opie Bosson and poised to strike. (3) HONOR THE NAME ran up to her recent trials with a good closing finish at Te Aroha where she had the race shape against. Another worth considering at a price.
Suggested Bet: TIANTAI
Race 8: (R60 2100m)
Tempo: Average
Potential for this staying race to be run at genuine pace early. (8) IVY’S DANCER has been patiently waiting for a wet track as well as speed in a race and the market honed in on her at a price last start, held up at a key stage and had momentum halted. With preferred conditions and an unimpeded run she can fight out the finish. (4) PURE BARS was heavily bet at New Plymouth last start and snagged back instead of leading as the market had anticipated. Capable of sharp improvement with blinkers added and a positive Sam Collett aboard. (7) CLEW BAY was game in defeat with a soft lead last start, back in grade and will have her supporters.
Suggested Bets: IVY’S DANCER & PURE BARS
Race 10: (R65 1400m)
Tempo: Above Average
A solid speed brings (10) FREE BIRD into the race, received a wicked market drift first-up at Matamata when slow out and detached from the field early. She worked home strongly (3rd best L800m of the meeting) and now gets wet track conditions to suit returning right-handed where her best efforts have previously come. Scouting wide late in the day may be advantageous.
Suggested Bet: FREE BIRD
