TAB Market Movers: Pride Of Jenni crunched as punters strike early at Caulfield

The feature markets are up ahead of a big weekend of racing and punters have again wasted little time getting involved, with several significant moves at Caulfield while Rosehill betting has been relatively quiet.

TAB posted its opening markets around lunchtime on Monday following nominations, giving punters their first opportunity to shop around ahead of another big weekend.

As always at this stage of the week, these are all-in markets. If your horse doesn’t accept, you do your dough.

That warning is particularly relevant at Caulfield this week, where the rail will be out 13m and field sizes could become a major talking point.

Golden Rose market has been cooking for a while now

There has been surprisingly little movement in the Golden Rose, although that’s understandable given the market has been available for some time.

Guest House remains the dominant $2.80 favourite, but there has been one notable move further down the board with Modella backed from $11 into $6.

At this stage, however, punters aren’t exactly falling over themselves to reshape the market.

Gin Twist attracts Heritage support

There has been a bigger-priced move in the Heritage Stakes, where Gin Twist has attracted support at double figures.

TAB opened Gin Twist at $26 before punters stepped in, trimming that quote into $15.

Blue Door remains a firm $2.30 favourite and clearly the horse to beat according to the market, but those who found Gin Twist early have secured themselves a considerably better price.

Manikato runner at risk as punters forgive flop

The Manikato Stakes presents one of the more interesting betting conundrums of the week.

With the Caulfield rail out 13m on Saturday, field limits come into play and Extragalactic, currently fourth favourite at $9, is at risk of missing a run.

That’s something all-in punters need to factor in before diving into the market.

Meanwhile, punters have been willing to forgive Oliveanotherdat for his disappointing performance down the Flemington straight. He opened $6 and has already been backed into $4.50.

Beiwacht remains a firm $4 favourite in what shapes as a fascinating edition of the Group 1 sprint.

The old girl is back

Pride Of Jenni returns in the Feehan Stakes and punters have certainly taken notice of her dominant trial win.

The popular mare opened $3 with TAB but that price disappeared quickly, with support seeing her shorten into $2.30 favouritism.

Zambardo has also attracted money, firming from $6 into $4.50, putting him ahead of Mr Brightside in early betting.

There aren’t many horses capable of generating interest quite like Pride Of Jenni and the market suggests punters are expecting her to return in good order.

Darkbonee crunched in the JRA Cup

One of Monday’s strongest moves has come in the JRA Cup.

Darkbonee opened $5 but punters wasted little time taking that price, backing him into $3.50.

Future History has also been popular at considerably bigger odds, shortening from $15 into $9.

With final fields, barriers and jockeys still to come, the JRA Cup is already shaping as one of the more active markets of the week.

Punters keen on impressive Maiden Winner

Expensive filly Chayan heads TAB betting for the Scarborough Stakes at $3, but the early money has come for Over The Bridge.

On the back of her dominant Bendigo debut win, she opened at $6 before being backed into $4, putting some early pressure on the favourite.

Changing Colours continues rise for Yeomans

Lucy Yeomans has done a brilliant job with Changing Colours since the mare joined her stable and punters clearly aren’t jumping off now.

Changing Colours opened $5 on Monday but has been one of the better-backed runners across the Caulfield meeting, firming all the way into $3.

Grey mare Salty Pearl has also attracted support, shortening from $8 into $5.

It’s another race where the early shoppers have comfortably secured the better of the prices.

Open market gets even tighter

Finally, Somethings Burnin has been well backed in an open affair, shortening from $8 into $5.

That move has seen her join Diameter and Lara Antipova at the head of betting, with little separating the leading chances.

There is plenty still to happen before Saturday and Sunday, with acceptances, barriers and jockey bookings all capable of shifting markets considerably.

For now, though, Pride Of Jenni, Darkbonee, Changing Colours, Over The Bridge and Somethings Burnin are among the horses punters have wanted most since TAB markets went up on Monday.

And remember, the lure of getting $8 about something that starts $4 comes with a catch at this stage of the week: all-in means all-in.
