The autumn weather forecast will likely determine the duration of Treasurethe Moment’s upcoming preparation, with connections keen to avoid wet tracks with the G1 winner.
While she is a G1 winner on a Soft 7 track in Sydney as a three-year-old, the daughter of Alabama Express was well-beaten on a heavy track in the Champions Stakes at Flemington during the spring.
For this reason, as well as the fact connections want to focus their energy on another Cox Plate tilt in the spring, Yulong is keen to see Matt Laurie give Treasurethe Moment a light autumn campaign.
Yulong’s Racing Manager, Troy Stephens, said the four-year-old will have the first of two trials on Thursday.
The G1 Futurity Stakes appears a first-up lock before races including the All Star Mile, Australian Cup, Coolmore Classic, Doncaster Mile and Queen Elizabeth Stakes are considered.
“We would like to give her a light autumn and really focus on having her primed for a big spring,” Stephens said.
“We’ve got two programs that we’d look at.”
“Either a Futurity into an All Star Mile into an Australian Cup and into a Queen Elizabeth or a Futurity into a Coolmore Classic and then into a Doncaster, although I’m not sure what weight she’d get in those races.”
“We just want to be mindful to avoid wet tracks because we don’t think she’s at her best on them so we don’t want to run her on anything worse that a Soft 6.”
“There are lots of big races for her in the spring so we don’t want to knock her around too much in the autumn.”
With Bet365, Treasurethe Moment is the $4.50 second favourite in the All Star Mile, while she’s $17 in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. She does not feature in Bet 365’s all-in markets for either the Australian Cup or the Doncaster Mile.
