Mitch Ellis got the week off to a flyer with his best bet Ongatiti taking out race one of the Carnival. Betsy’s jumps expert is back with a preview of day two.
Race 4 – 12:55pm – BM120 Steeplechase | 3450m
(3) GOLDEN GARDEN Was great first-up, only nabbed late, and the form through The Mighty Spar reads strongly. Seems to enjoy Warrnambool, will roll forward and be hard to catch.
(1) POINT NEPEAN The best jumper in the race and has earned the big weight. Trialled well over the Warrnambool hill on 20/04. First time chasing so happy to risk, but very wary of his class.
(4) PRESSFAL Classy chaser who often finds one better. His best performance last year came on a Heavy 8 at Ballarat and he’ll get similar conditions here. Fit from recent racing.
(5) SAINT EUSTACE Best of the rest but will need to improve on recent efforts. Pateman on is a positive.
Suggested Bet: GOLDEN GARDEN (Win) $3.40 at Fatbet and PRESSFAL (Each Way) $12 at Fatbet
Race 6 – 2:05pm – Galleywood Hurdle | 3200m
(1) HIGHLAND BLAZE Stating the obvious but he’s the best form horse by a margin. GN Hurdle winner last season and his recent flat form has been excellent. Target race, hard to beat.
(3) ENCHANTED ELLE Closed last prep with three strong wins including the feature hurdle at Ballarat. Fit and proven on heavy ground.
(4) KARBURAN Good on debut, okay at Terang but didn’t handle the ground. Likely better back at Warrnambool, just queries at this level.
(6) THE STORYTELLER Impressive debut win but this is a big step up. Did handle the ground well and was strong late.
Suggested Bet: HIGHLAND BLAZE (Win) $2.30
