Everest winner Giga Kick will work on the course proper at Randwick on Tuesday morning before a final decision is made on whether he will run on the weekend.
Giga Kick was left in the Newmarket Handicap as a precaution and was given 59kg, but it is understood that the 1000m of the Challenge Stakes at weight-for-age might suit him better at this point in his preparation.
Jimmysstar was made 60kg topweight for the Newmarket, leaving star three-year-old Tentyris with 57kg alongside last year’s winner Joliestar, which is likely to stay in Sydney for the Canterbury Stakes.
The plethora of choices for sprinters makes this weekend one of the most interesting of the year with Group 1 over 1300m and Group 2 over 1000m at weight-for-age, while Melbourne offers challenge of a Group 1 handicap.
Jockey Mark Zahra, who is Tentyris’s regular partner, will make his comeback from a broken leg on Saturday and is schedule to ride at Flemington.
Tentyris will be looking for history if he can win the Newmarket completed a unique sprint treble down the Flemington straight.
Home Affairs won the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Lightning Stakes as Tentyris has this year, but could only manage a midfield under 56kg in the 2022 Newmarket.
Giga Kick is on the path to the TJ Smith and he arrived in Sydney over the weekend and will get the chance to have a good look at Randwick on Tuesday morning.
