Calvin McEvoy has shared an update on his Melbourne Cup champ Half Yours following his fall in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday.
McEvoy shared a video of Half Yours gently walking around, feeding on grass.
”He seems to be good, unbelievably,” he said.
”He’s very tough, all things considered he’s come through well. A bit battered and bruised but in very good spirits and comfortable which is the main thing.
”Very thankful.”
Tony McEvoy told racing.com that as a result of the fall, he expects Half Yours to miss his opportunity to defend his Melbourne Cup title.
No decision at the moment but he won’t be able to work for 10 days so I think our campaign is over,” McEvoy said.
“So, as disappointing as that is, we are still overjoyed that he seems OK.
“We are very lucky. He had four staples in a near foreleg and four staples put in an off-hind leg and he had a laceration under his chest, but all pretty superficial stuff in the scheme of things.
Ohope Wins, the other horse involved in the fall, was tragically euthanised on Saturday.
Her trainer, Chris Waller, and owner Yulong paid tribute to the mare.
Few words can express our current emotions. Our wonderful Ohope Wins was sadly brought down in today’s Caulfield Cup, and despite all efforts from the on-course veterinarians, could not be saved.
