Race 1: (MAAT 1800m)
Tempo: Average
A moderate tempo only. (1) NO MORE PENNIES under Chris Dell broke through for a maiden win over 1600m at Waverley with a similar set-up here going to the 1800m for the first time, same tactics expected. (1) HI YO FOX ROX is a likely to be the best horse to come out of this race, his two starts have been very good, back and wide against the race shape at Waverley on debut he made steady ground then was backed strongly from long odds in at his 2nd start and produced a big finish at the mile to score. Ideally-suited going to 1800m on the home track and only needs positive intent early to have the leader in his sights to go back-to-back.
Suggested Bet: HI YO FOX ROX
Race 4: (MAAT 1400m)
Astute placement by the Ben & Ryan Foote combination to find this MAAT event for the promising 3YO (1) DROMMY, a strong finish at Matamata first-up was franked second-up with a dominant win at Te Aroha when the money was on. The 2nd horse Golden Point has since won to strengthen the form and he is the clear horse to beat and best of the day against moderate opposition.
Suggested Bet: DROMMY (Best)
Race 5: (R65 1600m)
Tempo: Average
Lead pairing is (3) ILLUSTRIOUS drawn wide and (14) SUMMER BREEZE. The latter finished 8th of 14 at Waverley last start but the run much better than it looked. Early leader, then found herself back 3rd last approaching the turn when shuffled back as the speed came into the race, she then struck interference in the straight and was entitled to finish closer. Won her maiden this track & distance when leading, represents value in the market. (8) ON SHAW made an impressive debut for the new stable winning at Wanganui fresh off one trial and 258 days out. He sat wide midfield on a moderate speed and sprinted quickly in the straight. Again drawn wide, he is the pick of the closing bunch coming down the middle.
Suggested Bets: ON SHAW (Value) & SUMMER BREEZE (Roughie)
Race 6: (R75 1600m)
Tempo: Above Average
The progressive mare (10) AFTERGLO is again well-suited finding what is expected to be a replica of what she received last start when winning at Te Rapa. Up in grade, the speed here is generous with a number of runners only knowing one way, she will again take her time to balance up and has an excellent turn of foot when ridden quiet, the in-form George Rooke sticks with her and will take beating once more.
Suggested Bet: AFTERGLO
