Plenty to like tonight at Sandown Park as we edge closer to the club’s highly anticipated Trilogy series in May.
The card has real depth, with several key races shaping as strong form references heading into the coming weeks. There are a few emerging types worth keeping a close eye on, alongside some established performers stepping out in competitive fields.
Away from the highlighted races, Liddell looks one to watch in Race 2, while Race 10 has plenty of intrigue with NSW star He’s A Pearl making his debut for Jason Thompson against the likes of Zelda Covilha and Croydon.
Jason Adams’ preview for Sandown Park
BEST
Sandown Park, Race 7, Hurricane (6)
His debut over this distance at The Meadows on Saturday night was electric. I initially thought this draw was yuck for him, but scratchings have made it easier. Gambella (8) is as good, but I think she’ll let him go early and not catch him.
NEXT BEST
Sandown Park, Race 8, Amron Dancer (2)
It’s easy and true to say that Deadly Avenger (1) and Ross The Boss (3) are classier than him based on their careers. But if Amron Dancer is leading and running fast times, what sort of effort is it going to take to turn him down? A massive one. He was stiff last week, let’s go again.
BEST VALUE
Sandown Park, Race 6, Fast Freddy (7)
This one is on a place heavy basis (no third dividend). He’s got good ability but doesn’t have a raging will to win – the last six times that he’s run top two the margin has been less than half a length. He’s every chance to go forward here and play a big role in the race, given that $9/$3.20 looks like value.
WORTH THE RISK/TAKE ON
Warrnambool, Race 9, Repeat The Same (2)
A bigger price than we’d usually like for this lay play, a tick over $4. He’s been good lately but I think there’s a couple here that have him covered on this format of track, they being Boracay Storm (1) and Sparring (7). Happy to be against him.
