Best bet: Race 4 No.1 Ronny Bee

Turf Talk:

  • Clear and warm weather is forecast for race day and warm days in the lead up so expect the meeting to start on a Good 4 and more than likely remain at this rating through the meeting.
  • The rail goes out and will be +6m the entire circuit.
  • Expecting an even surface on the course proper today.

Key Stats:

  • Chris Bieg brings three runners to the meeting and his stable is in good form producing 14 winners in his last 100 runners at a PoT of +26.4%.
  • Last season’s Premiership-winning jockey Rochelle Milnes has ridden 14 winners in her last 100 rides at a positive PoT return of +12.3%.

Race by race overview

Race 1:

Victorian visitor (2) Presser sets up well for this race as he drops in grade from recent runs and remains at his best distance over 1600m, mapping for a soft run from barrier 2.

(1) Bamyan Buddha has found good recent form with a win and a close second in his last two runs and is at his best when pushing forward to control the tempo.

Outside of him, (6) Chakado looks the only other runner with genuine early speed and could prove hard to catch if given a soft run in front.

(4) Fast Bubbles has a quick turn of foot and can be strong late, rising sharply in distance after a forgivable run last start in stronger sprint company and should be at peak fitness third-up.

Selections:

(2) Presser
(1) Bamyan Buddha
(6) Chakado
(4) Fast Bubbles

Suggested Bet: No Bet

Race 2:

(7) Tyusix kicked off this campaign in good form before a strong showing in the Strathalbyn Cup. She drops back in grade here and at peak fitness looks capable of winning this.

(9) Somewhere Soon is a last start winner suited rising to 1800m and from barrier 1 should land ideally in run.

(1) Top Of The Ridge endured a tough run last start in a similar race and maps for a softer passage today.

(3) King Of Wessex battled in similar company last time but gets a different set up and a senior jockey which could spark improvement.

Selections:

(7) Tyusix
(9) Somewhere Soon
(1) Top Of The Ridge
(3) King Of Wessex

Suggested Bet: No Bet

Race 3:

(2) Intellectual presented to win first-up but couldn’t reel in the fitter horse and had to settle for second. He should strip fitter here and with extra fitness is expected to be stronger through the line, though the wide barrier from the chute is a slight concern.

(5) Wicked Storm rises in grade off a last start win and maps for a similar run with speed on to suit.

(7) Sassy For Sure was well supported when resuming and should be fitter for that run now, she was a winner 2nd up last prep and has scope to be an improver

Selections:

(2) Intellectual
(5) Wicked Storm
(7) Sassy For Sure

Suggested Bet: Win (2) Intellectual

Race 4:

(1) Ronny Bee has been an eye catcher in two runs this prep, hitting the line strongly on both occasions. He rises to 1500m third-up which looks ideal, having previously won two from two at that stage of a preparation, and may find his peak here.

(8) Zarkana was slow away last start but still produced some of the fastest closing sectionals of the meeting and should appreciate the rise in trip.

(9) Brown Nose Day Gal has been in strong form including a placing in similar company last week but may need luck from a wide barrier.

(3) Wichitall led throughout last start and while this is tougher, could prove hard to catch again if given a soft lead.

Selections:

(1) Ronny Bee
(8) Zarkana
(9) Brown Nose Day Gal
(3) Wichitall

Suggested Bet: Win (1) Ronny Bee

Race 5:

(2) La Gitana comes out of stronger Victorian two-year-old form and maps well here, rating highly against this field.

(1) Rebel Tuesday looks one of the better local juveniles and is fitter again with a strong record at this track and trip.

(9) Never Ordinary has impressed in recent trials and barrier 1 could prove advantageous.

(3) Image Artist has race experience in stronger SA two-year-old races and can improve again.

Selections:

(2) La Gitana
(1) Rebel Tuesday
(9) Never Ordinary
(3) Image Artist

Suggested Bet: No Bet

Race 6:

(2) Blanc Visage drops slightly in grade after a strong effort behind the in-form Mic Drop and produced the fastest L600m sectional of the meeting last start. An expected strong tempo should suit her again.

(1) Bristler maps to find the front from barrier 1 and could prove hard to reel in if allowed control.

(8) Round Two should improve second-up and if settling kindly can finish off stronger.

(3) Jahangir kicks off for a new stable slightly down in grade from where he finished last prep, looks good when winning a recent trial and could fire fresh.

Selections:

(2) Blanc Visage
(1) Bristler
(8) Round Two
(3) Jahangir

Suggested Bet: Win (2) Blanc Visage

Race 7:

The Lord Reims Stakes is a key Adelaide Cup lead up.

(9) Highland Bling was solid first-up at Caulfield and is much better suited second-up rising to 2600m with a quicker tempo expected.

(15) Isuspectjeu ran the fastest closing splits in the Premiers Plate and should relish the rise in distance.

(1) Bold Soul was well supported in the Hobart Cup and now steps to 2600m at peak fitness, while (2) Komachi won the Listed Premiers Plate after a tough run and may improve further with a softer passage.

Selections:

(9) Highland Bling
(15) Isuspectjeu
(1) Bold Soul
(2) Komachi

Suggested Bet: No Bet

Race 8:

(7) Wonder Boy hit the line strongly first-up at Group 2 level and looks ideally placed second-up rising to 1200m.

(2) Sghirripa bounced back winning the Listed Durbridge Stakes and has a strong record at this track.

(12) Thunder Shoc steps up sharply in grade but has been rating well and maps to settle prominently from barrier 1.

(1) Compelling Truth rates highly coming across from NSW. He resumes here and has previously performed well when 1st up and at this distance.

Selections:

(7) Wonder Boy
(2) Sghirripa
(12) Thunder Shoc
(1) Compelling Truth

Suggested Bet: No Bet

Race 9:

(4) Clarence drops in grade after a strong effort behind Mic Drop and looks suited rising in distance, expected to finish strongly again on an even track.

(13) Major Rumble brings strong form lines and should settle closer in the run, while (6) Super Lad resumes and may control the tempo if able to dictate.

(1) Three Rings had little luck when dropping in grade last start, he stays down at the same level but gets a much better race map here, can be an improver

Selections:

(4) Clarence
(13) Major Rumble
(6) Super Lad
(1) Three Rings

Suggested Bet: No Bet
