Betsy’s Odds Comparator tracks major betting moves at Moonee Valley, Randwick and Doomben, with Rosberg the best-backed at The Valley.

MOONEE VALLEY

Track: Soft 5

Rail: True

Weather: Forecast top of 21c, chance of showers

The Clint McDonald debutant – Rosberg – has been the best backed runner at The Valley. He set tongues wagging when winning a trial by some 15L, in easily the quickest time of the morning at Cranbourne on August 11.

Rosberg opened at $5 at most outlets and hovered between $5 and $4.60 for much of the week. However, punters targeted the debutant late on Friday, which saw his price tumble into around $3.50 by race morning. It’s a hot field, so it will be interesting to see if that support continues or whether the bigger players hone in on the race form.

The Moir is a terrific betting race with the current favourite being Alabama Lass, who was well backed in futures markets earlier in the week, and again once she drew gate three in the final field.

On race morning, there has been a good push for Arabian Summer, who has firmed from as much as $23 at scratching time in to between $11 and $15, depending on where you shop. Sportsbet are keeping her particularly safe at $11.

The other runner to attract attention is Skybird, who has firmed from $9 into $7.50 in the last 24 hours.

Queensland galloper Alpha Sofie has her first start for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman and she been the medium of good support in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes (race 7). She opened as much as $15 when Esha was still in the market and is now trading around $5.50, and despite the 28 cents of deductions has still been a good go.

Shawn Mathrick has taken a strong team of seven runners to Mildura, with the best backed of his runners being a debutant, Alexander Thegreat (Race 2). The colt has jumped-out nicely at Cranbourne and seemingly punters think he can make a winning debut, quickly snapping up the $6 on opening and backing him into a $3.70 favourite.

Money keeps coming for R9 number 2 I CATCHEM FOX, interesting set up given the horse will jump from the widest barrier on what is expected to be a quick track, but a lot of punters seem to be keen to take the risk.
