Race 2 – 12:40PM ARROWFIELD BREEDERS’ PLATE (1000 METRES)
TOM HAYLOCK’S PREVIEW:
Fast time and an impressive trial win by a colt by Stay Inside called (2) EVICTION NOTICE leading into his debut today. This colt jumped straight on the bunny, leaving the gates brilliantly. He was not seen after that, running fast time and winning by close to 8 lengths. Looks quick, professional and sustained a strong gallop. The $380,000 Gold Coast Magic Millions purchase looks the horse to beat in the Breeders’.
(4) I’M YA HUCKLEBERRY (c Home Affairs x Key) won his trial and did so in style. He was a $400,000 Magic Millions purchase and has size and professionalism. Jumped well, kicked up to hold the inside and was too good late. He was challenged by Paradoxium but responded when asked for an effort by Hyeronimus and won by 2.4L. Impressive win. He is a strong colt and has talent.
No knock on (7) PARADOXIUM, a colt by Extreme Choice who raced fresh. He draws barrier 1 for Collett which is his happy place.
The market has it pretty right here for the boys in our opinion.
DEAN WATLING’S PREVIEW:
Bet: (2) EVICTION NOTICE (win)
The colts look to be the early pick following strong performances in the Kensington trials as well as the heats at Warwick Farm last week. (2) EVICTION NOTICE 81 was the standout of The Trial File Ratings and firmly goes on top. With adjustments, I have him priced at $2.10 at 110%. He showed early speed before settling in a professional manner during the middle stages, then kicked away strongly under light riding. The son of Stay Inside looks a great bet in this year’s Breeders’ Plate.
The danger appears to be his stablemate, (4) I’M YA HUCKLEBERRY, who produced a more tradesman, all-muscle-like trial. The son of Home Affairs rated 78, he was the second pick in the Kensington morning trials. He maps slightly sticky though and may have to use petrol early to cross.
I expect the Baker-trained (7) PARADOXIUM to improve off the trials. Rated 62, he can easily be bumped up with his smart draw in this race. The other tick is finding the rails in run, which always helps with these green 2YOs.
(9) INCOGNITO rounds out the numbers – rated 50 – but he did get lost once hitting the front. Expect him to be the swooper of this race.
Suggested Bet – (2) EVICTION NOTICE WIN

TOM HAYLOCK’S PREVIEW:
Wasn’t a lot between (7) MASVINGO and (4) HANDLOOM in Heat 6 at Kensington. (4) HANDLOOM ran second with Semantics running fourth after racing wide. Not sure how HANDLOOM ran second in the heat but we loved what we saw from her. She settled in behind the speed, but worked between runners under minimal pressure and found the line stylishly. She doesn’t look a big filly as yet but she’s beautifully bred as you would expect, by Exceed And Excel out of Handspun. Moved very nicely and went well.
The winner was Zoustar filly (7) MASVINGO. She jumped well, settled outside lead and proved too strong. The $580,000 purchase wasn’t knocked about and won impressively. On the back of that trial there looks way too much between them in betting in the Gimcrack.
We loved the trial win of this Yes Yes Yes filly, (8) OH YES SHE DID in Trial 4. She was one of only two horses to come from behind runners and the only one really to work off heels to the outside and sprint past a couple which is a great attribute for an early season 2YO. Mitchell and Desiree Kearney look to have a nice filly on their hands. OH YES SHE DID was an Inglis Classic purchase for $240,000.
Mayflower and Ignition Code filled the placings and went okay, but we really liked the performance of (12) YVONNE’S JOY in behind, running home under her own steam for fourth. Both look over the odds.
Specking a few at value here: (8) OH YES SHE DID, (12) YVONNE’S JOY and (4) HANDLOOM.
DEAN WATLING’S PREVIEW:
The fillies’ race looks to be much more open this year, with plenty of chances emerging from the trials. On a morning dominated by on-speed runners, (8) OH YES SHE DID impressed when coming from off speed and doing her best work late in a slick 11.02 last 200m split. She rated 64, with a smart overall time, but there was plenty of added merit in her late work and her effort through the line. She goes on top and looks well over the odds.
(10) SHIKI rated strongly with 62, but her work through the line was only a pass mark. She looks the likely map horse but does appear a little short market-wise in the early stages of betting.
(12) YVONNE’S JOY didn’t have much luck in her trial and returned a rating of 48, but the effort was full of merit. She maps ideally here and can easily outrun her current odds of $50+.
(11) BETTER OFF ALONE is next best at 62. Gate 11 hurts her chances slightly, but she was taking ground off Shiki late in the trial and can swoop into the finish here.
(1) HOME INVASION is an interesting runner. Her overall trial time was plain, resulting in a 55 rating, but gate 1 is a massive advantage come Saturday. She looks a likely improver.
Suggested Bet – (8) OH YES SHE DID EW / (12) YVONNE’S JOY PLACE small
